Joplin Police Department to have child safety seat check Friday

(From the Joplin Police Department)

The Joplin Police Department announced today they will be performing child safety seat checks at the 15th Street Walmart on Friday, March 7th from 2pm to 4pm. JPD officers who are certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand to perform child safety seat checks, new safety seat installations, and provide information on child passenger safety.
According to the Alliance of Southwest Missouri, 4 out of 5 child safety seats are improperly installed. Usage of properly installed child safety seats along with safety belt usage is the most effective way to protect children in the event of a motor vehicle accident. Missouri law requires all children under the age of eight to be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are 80 lbs or 4’9” tall.
