When asked, VP Slinkard noted that we are canceling the Upward Bound cultural trip to Washington DC this summer, and we have not had any trouble getting refunds back from vendors so far. He reported that Dr. Peter Broglio will receive a brick for around the Tatum Bell Tower from PTK students in thanks for his years of service as a PTK Advisor since 1999. MSSU to offer provisional admission to students whose ACT tests were postponed due to COVID-19

(From Southern News Service)

In response to the postponement of ACT testing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Missouri Southern State University will offer provisional admission to students registering for the Fall 2020 semester who have had their test postponed.

The ACT national test date had been scheduled for April 4. The organization, which administers the standardized test, has rescheduled testing for June 13.

The university is committed to making sure the class of 2020 is ready to begin their college experience in the fall, said Michael Sanders, dean of admissions.

“COVID-19 is requiring us to rethink how we do things as an institution,” Sanders said. “It has disrupted all departments on campus, and we know it has disrupted seniors and families in their preparation for college in the fall. We want to remove as many of the roadblocks as we can during this pandemic.”

Students who have already completed their application or are preparing to do so can provide a self-reported GPA or test score to admissions staff in order to move forward with the fall enrollment process. Provisional admission for students will be granted pending receipt of official documentation.

Sanders said the university intends to be flexible and innovative throughout the process.

“We will utilize technology to help them along the way,” he said. “Whether it’s a phone call, text, email or video conference, we can still communicate with students and parents to make sure all their questions are answered.”

For more information, contact Missouri Southern’s Admissions Office at 417-625-9378 or admissions@mssu.edu.

Ron Besendorfer killed in Louisiana motorcycle crash

(From the Louisiana State Police)

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 46 east near LA 300 in St. Bernard Parish.

The single-vehicle crash involved a motorcycle and claimed the life of 52-year-old Ronald Besendorfer of Chalmette, LA.

(Note: Besendorfer was a former Joplin insurance agent, a teacher and coach in the Carthage R-9 School District and was a Barton County native, attending Lamar and Liberal high schools.)

Troopers initial investigation revealed that Besendorfer was operating a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle on LA 46 east near LA 300.

For reasons still under investigation, Besendorfer lost control of the motorcycle, ran off the road to the right and was ejected. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Besendorfer sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

It is unknown if speed and/or impairment were factors in the crash however, a toxicology test will be performed following an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.

Motorcycle helmets are required by Louisiana law for all riders. The helmet will provide protection for the brain and decrease the chances of traumatic brain injury.
