Crowder students recognized as Phi Theta Kappa All-Missouri academic team members

(From Crowder College)

Crowder College had two students recognized as Phi Theta Kappa All-Missouri Academic team members: Emma Giebler (Neosho) and Payton Wilson (Greenfield). The students received a medal and certificate and a cash award.

“As a faculty advisor for Crowder College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, we would like to express our appreciation to the Missouri Community College Association for hosting this award luncheon.

"We would also like to congratulate our recipients and note that those chosen for this distinction are selected based on their leadership, academic accomplishments, contributions to the college and community service work,” stated Suzanne Prior, PTK Advisor

Phi Theta Kappa is the national honor society for associate degree-granting colleges. Crowder College chapter XiXi was established in 1965. To become a member of PTK as student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average while attending full-time, 12 or more hours. Students meeting the requirements are then sent an invitation to join the organization. One of the major benefits of PTK besides the recognition, is the scholarship opportunities.

Parks and Recreation completes tree care for Joplin parks

(From the City of Joplin)

With the assistance of a Community Forestry Cost-share Grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Joplin Parks and Recreation has completed essential tree care for several area parks.

With this grant, Joplin Parks and Recreation completed its tree inventory and assessed trees for risk at Senator Ron Richard Memorial Park, Campbell Parkway, and Garvin Park. Staff also pruned trees in Senator Ron Richard Memorial Park and Campbell Parkway. These parks are centrally located in Joplin and are a popular destination for the public.

"We’ve had a strong partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation over the years," said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director. "Their help has made a big difference in keeping our city’s forests healthy, and we truly value their support."

Community Forestry Cost-share grants assist communities with promoting the benefits of and improving their community forests. MDC's Community Conservation Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas. Their support helps the City maintain its Tree City USA status.
