Probable cause: Webb City woman finds it's no longer safe to drive on Carthage sidewalks
A Webb City woman who led authorities on a chase from Joplin to Carthage has been charged with felony resisting arrest and careless and imprudent driving and is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
The chase ended with Carthage officers following Breshia Rachelle Grosso, 26, as she drove the wrong way on the square, (something others have done from time to time though usually not while they are running from the police), and as she drove on the sidewalk (something others usually do not do).
The chase was decribed in the probable cause statement filed today in Jasper County Circuit Court:
On 01/22/2020 at 2:24 P.M., Carthage police officers were notified of a vehicle pursuit entering Carthage city limits.
Dispatch advised that the Joplin Police Department was in pursuit with the suspect's vehicle entering Carthage.
Officers attempted to deploy spike strips on the vehicle before joining pursuit. Carthage officers took over the pursuit. The suspect led officers through the city after emergency lights and sirens were activated.
The suspect went into oncoming lanes to pass other motorists, drove at speeds up to 60 mph in 30 mph zones and failed to stop at a total of 13 stop signs while fleeing from officers.
The suspect circled the Carthage Square in the opposite direction on one-way streets. The suspect also jumped a curb and drove on the sidewalk in a busy area of the city. The suspect was taken into custody after her vehicle was damaged (flat tires) due to hitting the curb.
The suspect was also arrested for the following felony warrants: Jasper County Sheriffs Office - Dangerous Drugs (Fail to Obey Judge) St. Clair County Sheriffs Office - Probation Violation Brosso's Criminal History includes: 2013 - Joplin, MO - Resisting Arrest (Convicted local ordinance)
