(From Connect2Culture)An international music sensation will offer a refreshing twist on the traditional holiday concert when the Dallas String Quartet performs “Electric Christmas” on Saturday, December 11, 2021, 7:00pm at Ozark Christian College Chapel (1111 N Main St Rd, Joplin, MO 64801). This will be the second performance in Connect2Culture’s 2021-2022 Curtains Up Series.
Despite its name, the Dallas String Quartet (DSQ) is comprised of six musicians – composer and violist Ion Zanca, violinists Eleanor Dunbar and Melissa Priller, bassist Young Heo, guitarist Anthony Plant, and percussionist/drummer Efren Guzman. Together, they form DSQ, an ensemble that uses traditional and electric string instruments to recreate popular songs.
Known for their eclectic renditions of anything from Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine” to Shawn Mendes’ “Señorita,” DSQ embodies their mantra – where Bach meets Bon Jovi. In their hands, beloved music is transformed and given new life – and Christmas songs are no exception.
“Their [DSQ’s] fresh spin on classic Christmas music is a refreshing change of pace from your traditional holiday show,” said Emily Frankoski, director of Connect2Culture. “Electric Christmas features reimagined holiday hits performed on both electric and traditional strings. This is not your average holiday show. Those that attend will leave energized and ready to celebrate!”
DSQ has a combined 34 million streams on Spotify and YouTube, has performed for Presidents Obama and Bush, and has played alongside Josh Groban, Chicago, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Their most recent appearance only adds to their extensive list of accomplishments.
“One of the things [about DSQ] that really caught our attention was their recent performance at Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s wedding,” says Frankoski. “Stefani and Shelton are both highly acclaimed musicians and being selected by them to perform at such an exclusive, personal event is no small feat. It speaks volumes to DSQ’s talent and the quality of their work.”
In addition to the public performance, Connect2Culture has arranged for DSQ to perform an outreach concert at The Wildwood Senior Living in Joplin earlier that day.
This project is generously funded by Mid-America Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the state agencies of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
