Newton County Sheriff's Office sergeant assaulted, arrest made

On July 11, 2025 at a little after 7AM, Sgt. Cabrera, with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on CC Highway south of Racine, MO. The vehicle failed to stop and turned into a dirt driveway and drove to a trailer house in the area of Nettle Drive and CC. The driver of the vehicle fled from the vehicle and ran into the house. Sgt. Cabrera attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he refused to exit the house.
 
The suspect later exited the house and got back into his vehicle. Sgt. Cabrera attempted to contact the suspect prior to him getting in the vehicle but was unsuccessful in doing so. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and he took off in the vehicle. 








Sgt. Cabrera returned to his marked patrol vehicle and gave chase to the suspect. The suspect pulled into a wooded area a short distance away and fled on foot. Sgt. Cabrera chased the suspect through the woods. Several times during the foot chase, the suspect engaged with Sgt. Cabrera where a struggle ensued.

During one of the struggles, the suspect bit Sgt. Cabrera on his arm and also stuck Sgt. Cabrera several times in his arm with an unknown object. Sgt. Cabrera was treated by EMS at the scene and at a local hospital and released.







 
Several Deputies arrived in the area, and they were able to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as Bryan Plumb a 52-year-old male. The following charges will be submitted to the Newton County Prosecutor for review:

Driving While Revoked, Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia x2, Felony Assault on an Officer, Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, Speeding, Failure to Register Vehicle, Display Plates of Another Vehicle, No Proof of Financial Responsibility.
