Firefly Community Day scheduled

Firefly Services hosts Community Day at Landreth Park in Joplin from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. The event will bring together Joplin residents for a day of fun and an introduction to Firefly Services.

Firefly provides employment support services by working with a diverse section of employers and provides supported living services to qualified individuals in their homes. The Community Day event offers information on all of Firefly’s services for persons with disabilities in and around Joplin.

Community Day features live music from the band Rangeline, face painting, balloon making, a water slide, an inflatable bounce house, family games and free Firefly gear to take home. There will also be food trucks on site at an additional cost to attendees.

Firefly Vice President Erica Missavage says the “Looking for a Job?” booth will be useful for job seekers facing challenges in the labor market. Anyone interested in a career with Firefly or in learning about working with individuals with disabilities is encouraged to attend.

“Our employment services team will cover Vocational Rehabilitation employment, Department of Mental Health employment, transition services and youth services,” Missavage said. “There will be team members available to discuss services with families and/or employers.”

Firefly’s supported living team members mostly work in the homes of the individuals they serve or in the Joplin community. Supported living services are tailored to meet the individuals’ needs, and can include physical health development, language development, social skills training, independent living skills, assistance with maintaining employment and assistance with leisure activities.
