Two Joplin men were injured in a one-vehicle accident 1:45 p.m. today on MO 43, a half mile north of Joplin.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2005 Dodge 1500 driven by Charles E. Dale, 62, Joplin, went off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and overturned.
Dale was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
A passenger, Daniel J. Duggar, 55, Joplin, was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Joplin Christmas Parade is Tuesday, Dec. 5, and Main Street from 15th Street to 26th Street will be closed in the late afternoon for staging the 100-plus entries in the event.

Barton County Sheriff asking for help locating Lamar woman wanted for bad check charges
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in looking for a subject which has two active warrants for her arrest out of Barton County.
Lisa R. Doyle, age 49 of Lamar is wanted for two charges of (Misdemeanor A)passing bad checks out of Barton County. Doyle was given a Court date to appear on the charges but failed to. Both warrants have a $500 dollar cash only bond. The total amount of the bond is currently set at $1000.00 cash only.

Webb City Police investigating dog poisoning
On Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 3 p.m. officers with the Webb City Police Department received a report of a possible animal poisoning in the 800 block of West Fourth Street.
The owners of the dog left their dog secured in their yard when they left for work the morning of Tuesday, November 28th. When they returned later Tuesday evening their dog was lethargic and would not eat. They took their dog to an emergency veterinarian in Joplin where treatment was started for possible poisoning of an unknown substance.
The owners have since given the dog to the Joplin Humane Society for continued treatment. We are encouraging anyone with information in this case to contact Lieutenant Travis Osterman or Detective Sergeant Joe Beckett at 417 673-1911.

The caller said a white male wearing red shoes had stolen a package containing a body pillow from the front porch. Officers responding located the white male wearing red shoes clinging to a body pillow walking southbound on St. Louis just south of Zora.
Once contacted the grinch (who tried to steal Christmas) was found to be in possession of several items stolen from the front porches of three homes in northern Joplin. He was placed under arrest for three counts of larceny and three counts of trespassing.

The 21st annual Southern Media Showcase will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, on the Missouri Southern campus. More than 450 print and video entries have been received from high-school students in Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas.
Activities will kick off with a program at 9 a.m. in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Guest speakers will be Southern alumni Phil Cross and Rick Rogers will make presentations during the program.
Cross is an Emmy Award-winning investigative news reporter at Fox 25/KOKH TV in Oklahoma City. He has worked at television stations in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. While at Missouri Southern, he produced programming and served on the student staff of KGCS TV.
Rogers is vice president at TownNews.com, the media industry’s leading content management system and digital service provider to more than 1,700 media partners in the U.S. and beyond. He has worked at community newspapers and local television stations. He was an editor of The Chart while at MSSU.

Joplin man injured as deer causes one-vehicle accident
A Joplin man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 12 a.m. today on Coyote Road just south of Joplin.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2012 Lexus SUV driven by David D. Nguyen, 47, Joplin, swerved to avoid a deer, left the roadway and struck a rock embankment.
Nguyen was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Kansas City man injured as semi crashes into trees off I-49
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Robert L. Cole, 28, Kansas City, ran off the roadway and struck a fence and some trees.
Cole was treated for minor injuries at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar.
Joplin Fire Department puts out structure fire at 2129 S. Bird
At 9:13 P.M. Tuesday night, JFD Engine 4B, Engine 2B, Ladder 1B, Rescue 3B, Battalion 1B, and Engine 6B on second alarm responded to a residential structure fire at 2129 S. Bird.
First arriving crews found heavy fire involvement to a single story residential dwelling.
Crews made an aggressive attack and was able to control the fire within 30 minutes. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters and the cause was determined to be accidental due to improperly discarded smoking materials. JFD was assisted by JPD and METS ambulance.

Portion of 4th Street to be closed for nine days

Missouri American Water Company will begin installing a new water main along 4th Street between Division Avenue and School Avenue starting Friday, December 1, 2017 at 6:00 a.m. until Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.

During this time frame, 4th Street will be closed to all thru traffic but businesses will remain open with as minimal impact as possible. The water main construction is due to an upcoming City storm water improvement project for the area.
Drivers will need to use alternate routes and proceed with caution at intersections. Detour routes will be provided during closure.

Felony charges filed against Joplin man who allegedly shot man in the face, held on no bond
Charges filed
The Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office filed unlawful use of a weapon, attempted robbery first degree, assault first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm against Joseph D. Pryor, 25, Joplin, with no bond. The Newton County Prosecutor’s Office filed possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm against Pryor with a $3,000 bond.

On 11/28/2017 at 10:19 p.m. officers responded to the area of 202 South McKinley for reports of gunshots.
A caller reported hearing two shots and yelling from the residence. Officers contacted multiple people at the residence and cleared the house. They didn’t find anybody injured or any signs of a shooting. Nobody at the residence confirmed a shooting occurred either. While there, officers did locate a stolen vehicle parked in the driveway. The stolen Nissan Pickup was reported stolen to Jasper County the day previous and was recovered by our officers.
Shortly thereafter, officers who were still investigating received information that a male had been shot in the face at the location and taken away before the officers arrived.
Officers and detectives began and extensive investigation to determine the location of the victim. The victim was located in Joplin later in the night and had been shot in the face. It was determined he was in fact shot at that residence. He was described as having non-life-threatening injuries, with a bullet striking him in one side of the face and exiting the other side.
At approximately 7 a.m. this morning, officers and detectives located and arrested Joseph D Pryor, 25, from Joplin at the Sunrise Inn on South Range Line.
Pryor is currently being held in the Joplin City Jail. Charges are being submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor for 1st Degree Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, armed criminal action and felon in possession of a firearm. Charges are also being submitted to the Newton County Prosecutor, related to the arrest location, for possession of a controlled substance and felon in possession of a firearm.
This case is still under investigation.
Noel teen injured in two-vehicle collision on 71
A Noel teen was injured in a two-vehicle accident 1:30 p.m. today on U. S. 71 at Route OO in McDonald County.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2010 Chevrolet HHR driven by Hannah C. Cortez, 18, Noel, struck a 2005 Ford Expedition driven by Karen R. Fletcher, 68, Lowell, Arkansas, in the rear.
Cortez was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Semi runs off I-49, slams into tree, one injured
On November 29th 2017, the Barton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a one-vehicle accident on Interstate I-49.
The reporting party on the accident advised a semi truck had left the roadway and struck a tree.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office, the Barton County Ambulance, the Lamar Fire Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene.
One person was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The accident occurred approximately two miles south of 160 Highway.

Todays tip deals with construction zone speed.
We were asked this question:
Does the road construction reduced speed limit have to be obeyed 24 hours of everyday during the construction period? Or can drivers go back to obeying the normal speed limit for that area when construction is not being done (i.e. over night, weekends, and holidays)?
Answer: If a speed limit sign is posted by in a construction zone, then that's the speed limit, no matter the time of day or if work is taking place or not. However, when workers are present the fine doubles. If there are no construction workers in the zone then the fine would be normal. Most of the time in Joplin you don't see speed limit reduced signs in construction zones unless the limit is being redused to less than 20 Mph. That's because all work zones, posted or not, have a maximum speed limit of 20Mph.
So remember, next time you see that construction zone sign, the speed limit will be 20mph unless posted lower.

Two Carthage residents were injured in a one-vehicle accident 5 p.m. Tuesday on MO 171, one mile west of Carthage.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2007 Toyota Sienna driven by Loy L. Hendricks, 51, Carthage, struck a deer.
Hendricks and a passenger, Lana Hendricks, 47, Carthage, were treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Barton County Sheriff searching for car stolen from Newport area
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating a stolen vehicle.
On 11-26-2017, a vehicle was reported stolen and possibly en route to the Kansas City Area. This incident occurred in the Newport area of Barton County around the address of 550 NE 100th Lane.
The vehicle is described as a silver in color 2001 Chevrolet Prism. The photo is not the actual vehicle and only there to be an example of what the car looks like.

Neosho residents, Lamar man face felony charges after theft of golf cart from Lamar Country Club
On 08-09-2017 an investigation was conducted into a burglary at the Lamar Country Club/Golf Course. A golf cart was reported to have been stolen from a building on the property. During the investigation three subjects were found to be persons of interest in the case.
At the conclusion of the investigation a probable cause statement was sent to the Barton County Prosecutor's office and now on 11-27-2017 warrants have been issued for the three subjects.
Gary Drum (above) is currently in custody at the Newton County Sheriff's Office on Newton County charges along with felony stealing and burglary charges out of Barton County.
The Sheriffs Office is asking for the community's help in finding two of the suspects in the case.
Tina Estep and Derek Gamble have active warrants for their arrest on the charges of felony stealing and burglary. They both have bond amounts of $2,500 cash or surety.

Newton County Sheriff investigating shooting of Joplin man at Redings Mill

On 11/24/2017, shortly before 5 p.m., the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Redings Mill in reference to someone shooting a gun in the area.

While there trying to locate where the shots were coming from a report came in that an individual had been shot. A 28-year-old identified as Ronald Hicks from Joplin reported that he had been shot in the upper leg while he was on a walking trail. Hicks was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was treated and released.
Deputies located three individuals who had been firing guns in close proximity to where the victim was shot. An investigation is under way at this time.
While there is nothing to indicate at this time that the victim was shot intentionally it is being treated as an assault due to the reckless nature of the incident.

The Webb City Police Department is proud to share with you, that we are coordinating our 20th annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ event. Naturally, this entire event is made possible only because of the generosity of people in the community. Without the donations, this project would not exist. Local businesses in Webb City have partnered with us and are selling the ‘Shop with a Cop’ badges for $1.00 donations for this program. One hundred percent of the collected funds go directly to children and their families.
As you are well aware, this program helps to provide Christmas for some very deserving children in the Webb City school system.
This year’s event is scheduled for a Saturday morning in December when again, 75 law-enforcement officers will shop with 75 children at our Webb City Wal-Mart. Each child will be given $100.00 to spend on Christmas gifts, for themselves and other family members. The selected families will also receive a food basket of items donated by various businesses and vendors who also have partnered with us. The officers have almost as much fun as the kids, and every year Santa Claus arrives early to help us out and there are always lots of hugs and even some tears of gratitude.

Domestic assault report leads to three arrests, removal of three-year-child from Joplin home

Yesterday at 1:05 p.m. our officers responded to an address in the southwest part of the city for a domestic assault. They met the female victim away from the residence and she reported that she was choked and assaulted by the suspect, who is her boyfriend.

Officer approached the house and saw the male suspect run into the house. It was determined that he and another male were hiding in the attic.
Officers were able to talk them down and arrested both. The first for domestic assault and warrants and the second male for warrants.
Due to poor living conditions in the home, drug use in the home and drug paraphernalia within reach of a three-year-old child, a female was arrested at the residence for endangering the welfare of a child. The child was taken into state protective custody.

Joplin, Neosho residents injured in three-vehicle crash on Business 49
Three people were injured in a three-people crash 10:45 a.m. today on Business 49, three miles south of Joplin.
According to the Highway Patrol report, as a 2014 Chevrolet pickup driven by Merle D. Ward, 67, Joplin, a 1986 Toyota Supra driven by Candi S. Spor, 47, Neosho, swerved across the center line to avoid the Ward vehicle and struck a 2011 Suzuki passenger car driven by Kathleen A. Whalen, 62, Joplin.
Spor, Whalen and a passenger in the Whalen vehicle, Donald L. Guertz, 65, Joplin, were treated for moderate injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Harry S Truman Elementary in Webb City was recently identified as one of Missouri’s Distinguished Title I Schools by the National Title I Association.
Each year at the National Title I Conference, schools from all across the United States are recognized as Distinguished Title I Schools. Each state has the opportunity to identify two schools as Distinguished Title I schools through the use of three categories. The three categories are:
1. Exceptional student performance for two consecutive years
2. Closing the achievement gap between student groups
3. Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homeless, migrant, English Learners, etc.)
Harry S. Truman Elementary has been chosen through category 1.
