Joplin Police Department Weekly Activity Report

Cherokee County Sheriff offers $10,000 reward for information leading to location of Karol Sullens

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

On the night of August 31, 1991, Karol Marlene Sullens disappeared from a Galena, Kansas nightclub, never to be seen again.

In April, 2002, Donald D. Kidwell was sentenced in connection to Karol's disappearance, although her body has never been recovered.

"For the past 29 years, Karol's family has had to struggle with not being able to properly lay her to rest. That's an anguish which continues with each passing day," stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

"In an effort to locate Karol's remains, through private funds, today we are announcing a $10,000.00 reward for information which directly leads to her discovery."

"Our hope - and the hope of Karol's family - is that someone who has direct knowledge of where her body is located will be compelled now, after all these years, to come forward and speak up," concluded Sheriff Groves.

If someone has specific information as to the location of Karol's remains, they can contact the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office at 620-429-3992, 620-848-3000, by visiting the agency website at www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com or by texting 888777. Just type 'tip cherokee' followed by the specific information they wish to provide.

Extra Joplin Police officers on streets tonight searching for drunk drivers

(From the Joplin Police Department)

The Joplin Police Department is participating in “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” this weekend.

This campaign, compiled with “Saturation Saturday” will bring extra officers to the streets this entire weekend to look for impaired drivers.

Summer is nearly over, and in the next several weeks leading up to the Labor Day holiday, let’s make sure we are enjoying it safely! For many, these plans will include alcohol, so we want to be sure that if they do choose to drink, they remember to have a sober driver.
Some consequences of impaired driving are:

-Court Cost
-Attorney fees
-Loss of license
-Loss of job
-Tow bill
-Lost time at work for court appearances
-Increased insurance costs
-Personal embarrassment when friends and family finds out
-Could prevent you from getting the job you want in the future
-Your name in the news
-Jail time
-Injury / death, or causing injury or death to another person
-Damage from a crashed car

Its just not worth it. There are too many options to get home instead of driving.

Call a ride service, cab, or sober friend.

If you suspect someone of driving impaired, call 417-623-3131 or 9-1-1. Please, don’t drink and drive!

Jasper police officer's first night includes arrest of Carthage residents, confiscation of meth

(From the Jasper Police Department)

Jasper PD’s newest member wasted no time making an impact for the better in the city of Jasper.

Jasper PD officer Chris Haddock’s first shift on his own for us was last night. Officer Haddock came across a vehicle stopped on the I-49 on ramp.

In the vehicle was Bobby Masters and another female. Officer Haddock who worked for Carthage PD before leaving for a fulltime job in the private sector recognized both persons and knew they have a history of being involved in illegal narcotic activity.

Officer Haddock arrested Masters for driving while revoked and upon search of the vehicle, found a plastic baggy with a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, as well as meth related drug paraphernalia.

Both are facing charges for possession of meth related drug paraphernalia.

Officer Haddock is a very much welcome addition to the Jasper Police Department.

Note: Both suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
