Jasper woman injured in accident on I-55

A Jasper woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 2:17 p.m. Saturday on southbound I-55 at the 134.8 mile marker in St. Genevieve County.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2020 Freightliner Corp tractor driven by Algela L. Johnson, 46, Jasper, drove off the left side of the roadway and struck the cable barrier.

Johnson was treated for moderate injuries at Perry County Memorial Hospital, Perryville.

Rocky Comfort woman injured slamming into utility pole

A Rocky Comfort woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 6:45 p.m. Saturday on Highway E, one mile from Powell.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Nissan Frontier driven by Katelyn E. Bouvier, 24, Rocky Comfort, ran off the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned.

Bouvier was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Bella Vista.

 

Grove man arrested for DWI after crashing into tree near Noel

A Grove, Oklahoma man was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident 9 p.m. Saturday on Route H, two miles east of Noel.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Alejandro C. Canchola, 49, Grove, traveled off the right side of the road, overturned and crashed into a tree.

Canchola, who was also cited for failing to drive on the right half of the roadway, was treated for moderate injuries at Integris Hospital, Grove.

Marian Days is back! As always, we’re expecting a big crowd for this year. 

The roads around the Congregation of the Mother of the Redeemer have been blocked as of 7 AM today (see below for the the list). 

They will remain closed until the morning of Sunday August 7th. There will be large amounts of foot traffic near the grounds. 








Please be cautious in the area. We’re excited for Marian Days to be back and are planning on a safe event.

Joplin Police investigate after car knocks man off bicycle, passenger shoots at him

On July 28th at 11:23 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of gunshots in the area of C Street and north Wall Avenue. 

Officers responded to the area and located spent shell casings near the alley at this location. 







Officers were able to make contact with a victim who was not injured. The victim stated he was on a bicycle and was being followed by a white passenger car. The car bumped into him and knocked him off his bicycle and then an occupant from the car fired multiple gunshots at him. The car then fled the area. 

At this time no arrest has been made in this case. 

The Joplin Police Department is actively working the investigation and we ask that if you have any information regarding this incident to please contact the Joplin Police Department at 417-623-3131.

Joplin man charged with assault in connection with shooting at 3424 S. Finley

Detectives have identified the suspect in this case as Richard E. McWhirt, age 42 of Joplin. 

McWhirt shot the victim, Gregory Hallstrom, on July 16th, 2022 at 3424 S. Finley Avenue. The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital. 

On July 25th, 2022 the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges for Assault in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action against McWhirt. 








On July 28th a Detective Sergeant with JPD located McWhirt near the area of 30th and Rangeline.

Officers responded to the area and set up a perimeter and were able to take McWhirt into custody without incident. McWhirt is currently being held in the Joplin City Jail with no bond. 

The investigation is continuing and further updates may be released as more information becomes available.

The victim in this case has been identified as Gregory A. Hallstrom, age 34 of Joplin. No update on his condition is currently available.

On July 16th, 2022 at 12:34 am the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of a shooting in the area of 35th and Finley Avenue. 

Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male with a gunshot wound injuries and immediately began rendering aid. EMS responded to the scene to take over treatment and rushed the victim to a local hospital. The victim is currently in critical condit

Charges filed against Purdy man in connection with burglary of Rangeline business

On July 27th, 2022 at 4:06 am the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of a business alarm at Wildcat Materials Inc. at 4901 S. Rangeline Road in Joplin. 

Officers of the Joplin Police Department responded and located damage to a fence on the property. While clearing the business, a report of a vehicle theft in progress came out in the 3000 block of east Woodlawn Drive, just a short distance away from the business. 









Officers immediately responded and found the suspect still inside a black Jeep Wrangler. He was immediately detained and identified as Kevin V. Granger, age 46 of Purdy, Missouri. 

Granger was under the influence of an unknown substance and transported to the hospital for treatment. 

While on scene, it was determined Granger had gained access to the victim's residence, removed several items from the home and had placed them into the Jeep and was believed to be trying to steal the Jeep to leave the scene. 

Officers also located laser equipment in the Jeep that was confirmed to be stolen from Wildcat Materials. 








During further investigation on scene there, officers located a stolen Ford F150 on the lot that was stolen out of Newton County, Missouri. Information was gained that Granger may have been involved in other criminal activities in Newton County as well. 

Granger remained hospitalized and charges were forwarded to the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for Burglary in the 1st Degree and Burglary in the 2nd Degree. The investigation is ongoing and further updates may be released as they become available.

Dedication ceremony for new berm bridge at Kellogg Lake scheduled

This Thursday, July 28, the Kellogg Lake Nature Center advisory group will hold a dedication ceremony of the new berm bridge. 

The bridge was constructed as a phase of the reclamation of the old rearing pond area which was stagnant and full of debris. 

The project included excavating a breach in the berm wall to allow lake current to clear the stagnation, removing dead trees, fabrication of the bridge that reconnects passage around the berm, and landscaping which will be the final phase. 








Special thanks are owed to many who contributed funds or work on the project: Snyder Excavating, Carthage City Engineer, Street, and Parks Departments, Carthage Community Foundation, Kip Smith Realty, Carthage Rotary Club, Shane Meister Towing Service, and Derrick Tilton & Sons. The 38-foot steel bridge was constructed by Wendall Schrock, Avilla, at a cost of $22,000.

The Kellogg Lake advisory group, a non-profit organization which has supported park improvements since 2001, will dedicate the bridge to the city at 5:45 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Joplin man identified as victim in shooting at 1201 E. Hill Street

The victim in this shooting has been identified as Daniel Samuels, age 47 of Joplin. 

Samuels is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.

On July 26th, 2022 at approximately 3:42 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a call of gunshots at 1201 E. Hill Street in Joplin. 

Officers from the Joplin Police Department responded and located an adult male victim with gunshot injuries. The victim was given aid and rushed to a local hospital by METS Ambulance Service. 

The victim is considered to be in critical condition. No arrests have been made at this time.

Joplin woman faces felony charge after allegedly shooting at woman near 7th and Wall

On July 26th, 2022 at approximately 11:25 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a call of gunshots near 7th Street and south Wall Avenue in Joplin. 

The caller advised she was shot at by a person in another vehicle near this intersection. 

Officers responded and made contact with the caller and witnesses who described driving west on 7th Street and a female driver in a red Ford Mustang convertible pulled next to them on 7th Street, pointed a gun at them and fired a round. No persons were injured during the shooting. 








The victim was able to positively identify the suspect as Kameron McCain. 

Officers responded to 2813 S. Adele Avenue and located the suspect vehicle at this address. After some time, officers were able to get two females to exit the residence, with one of them being McCain. 

After further investigation, officers placed Kameron D. McCain, age 20 of Joplin, under arrest. Charges have been filed by the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office against McCain for Discharging a Firearm at or from a Motor Vehicle/At a Person (Class B Felony).

07/22/2022 Officer took a report of forgery. Investigation continues.

07/23/2022 Officer took a report of theft at Murphy’s USA. One person was arrested and issued a summons for stealing under $750 (shoplifting).

07/23/2022 Officer stopped a vehicle near 10th and Parry. The driver was arrested for driving while suspended and possession of controlled substance. Probable Cause paperwork was forwarded to the Barton County Prosecutor.








07/24/2022 Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Grand. Driver was arrested and charged with Driving While Revoked felony and failed to yield to emergency vehicle.

07.24/2022 Officer was advised of an individual who had driven off without paying for gas at Murphy’s USA. The individual had driven off without paying on 4 other dates in June and July. Summonses were issued for stealing under $750 (shoplifting).

Cause of structure fire on Zora Avenue still under investigation

Just before 4pm this afternoon, Joplin 911 received reports of a possible structure fire on Zora Ave.

First arriving units found a single-story residential structure with fire showing from the garage. Personnel attacked the fire and were able to contain it to the garage with some extension into the attic of the residence. 

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. 

Due to the extreme heat, additional units were brought in to assist. JFD received assistance from the Joplin Police Department and Metro Emergency Transport System

The fire is still under investigation at this time by the Joplin Fire Marshal.
