Main Street parking and trolley routes to shift for Joplin Christmas Parade
(From the City of Joplin)
The City of Joplin reminds citizens that the annual Christmas Parade is set for Tuesday, December 3. Freeman Health System is the host for this year’s parade, which has the theme “Christmas through the Decades”.
The parade begins at 6 p.m., starting from 15th and Main Street and traveling north to 3rd and Main Street, with the parade judges stationed at 8th and Main Street. Volunteers helping with the parade can be found throughout the route and will be designated by the safety vests they will be wearing.
To help spectators for the Joplin Christmas Parade, parking will not be allowed along Main Street starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday to allow everyone a clear vantage point. Accessible parking will be available at 8th and Main Street.
Please note that Main Street from 15th Street to 26th Street will close at 3 p.m. for staging the 100-plus entries in the event. This closure also includes all intersections. Starting at 4:30 p.m., the closure of Main Street will expand north to 2nd Street.
Travelers are encouraged to be extra cautious during this evening event. If needing to cross Main Street, drivers should plan extra travel time in order to reach the far south or north end during this event.
Because of these closures, the stops for the Sunshine Lamp Trolley will experience temporary changes for that afternoon, including:
Trolley stops along Main Street located at 3rd, 6th, 10th, 15th, 20th, and 26th Streets will be moved one block west to Joplin Avenue starting at 3 p.m. and remain in effect for remainder of the day.
The Green Route Trolley Stop at 25th will be moved to Virginia Street during the 3, 4 and 5 o’clock hours;
The Green Route will end at 32nd and Main at 6:05 p.m.
If you have questions about these temporary changes, contact the Sunshine Lamp Trolley at 417-626-8609.

If you are a struggling family which needs a little help providing a good Christmas for your children, applications can be picked up from City Hall at 302 N Main Street.
We try not to turn down any family, but funding can only stretch so far. Priority will be given to families based on a needs assessment provided from the application and by the amount of applications received.
Priority will also be given to children between the ages of five and fifteen, but we may extend the age range depending on the assessments and funding available, so even if you have a child outside of that age range, you can still apply.
Applications also must be limited to residents within the City Limits of Granby.
This year, we will be hosting the event December 21st at 10 a.m. at the Neosho Walmart. Applications will need to be turned back in no later than December 17th to be considered for the program, and a department representative will contact eligible applicants prior to the event to confirm attendance.
If you are a business or individual interested in helping fund the event, donations can be left at City Hall or by contacting the Police Chief directly. Thank you.
