"Santa's Workshop" theme for Joplin Christmas Parade

(From Freeman Health System)

For the fifth year in a row, Freeman Health System will manage the Joplin Christmas Parade. This includes a donation of countless man-hours to organize and orchestrate the event.

In a news conference held Monday, October 29, at Joplin City Hall, Gary Shaw, City of Joplin Mayor, presented a 2018 Joplin Christmas Parade permit to Paula F. Baker, Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer.

The theme of this year’s parade was also announced and the emblem unveiled. “Santa’s Workshop” encourages entrants to decorate accordingly.

“I hope the theme inspires everyone to remember what it was like to be a kid and use their creativity to fly to the North Pole to visit what has to be the busiest workshop in the world,” said Baker. “I can’t wait to see how each organization interprets this year’s theme.”

Funds generated by the 2018 Joplin Christmas Parade will go to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, which provides assistance to children from birth to 21 years of age in a 14-county area in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. All money raised stays local, helping children with medical needs and their families. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals helps furnish and maintain Freeman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, provides funding for local community organizations’ pediatric needs and provides pediatric emergency equipment for area agencies.

Freeman staff members have already started planning the parade. The parade will take place at 6:00 pm Tuesday, December 4. The parade route starts at 15th and Main Street and runs north to Third Street. For more information about placing an entry in the 2018 Joplin Christmas Parade call 417.347.3962 or email joplinchristmasparade@freemanhealth.com. To register click here.

Lamar Police Department introduces new badges

(From the Lamar Police Department)

The Lamar Police Department has introduced their new badges, providing a new symbol for the department. The department began wearing the new badges last week and provide a more modern look to the uniform while trying to capture a deep since of heritage and community values.

The basic shape went from the classic shield and eagles to the oval for a more modern look of the profession.
They took the classic, bold wording and made it simple to read and recognize.
An American Flag banner was added to symbolize the heritage and the contributions of many Lamar residence to our community and country.

Chief Rives wanted the badges to stand out and be a sense of pride for the officers. The patrol officers’ badge is silver with gold panels. As officers progress in rank to Sergeant, the badge becomes gold with the panels changing to silver, reversing the basic contrast. Command staff badges are gold with gold panels. The difference although probably insignificant to most symbolizes a rite of passage and growth.

Chief Rives stated “creating a professional image is important to us. It not only reflects on the police department and the confidence we hope the community has with the department, but also the image we are able to help create for the city as a whole.”

The badges replace the traditional badge that have been worn for many years. Chief Rives commented the department had three different styles of badges being used before the replacements. The need for uniformity is vital in setting the department image. Identifying the need and planning for the change had been outlined nearly a year ago.

Jasper traffic stop leads to arrest of Carthage men on meth charges

(From the Jasper Police Department)

On Wednesday, at about 12:33 pm, a Jasper officer stopped a black Ford Fusion near a known drug house in the 300 block of North Main St.

Upon stop all three subjects exited the vehicle. Contact was made and upon search, a marijuana pipe was located in the driver's door pocket. In the glove box a glass pipe with crystal substance inside was located.

Under the drivers side floor mat a bag with white residue was located. Driver Kolby Winn, 22 from Carthage, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while revoked and obstruction, due to giving a false name to officers.

Back seat passenger Brandon Woods, 27 from Carthage, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent after 10 plus grams of suspected meth was found on his person.

Front seat passenger, Mason McClure, released with no charges. McClure continues to be a danger to our city, as he was recently arrested for arson, also this past weekend he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance by Carl Junction PD.

McClure is on bond for the arson as well as possession of a controlled substance and probation revocation. He has hearings coming up but while he is out, he’ll continue to be a danger.

Please feel free to contact his probation officer at 417-629-3200, just ask for Mason McClure’s officer and express your concerns. He is bringing known drug dealers into Jasper and certainly not abiding by his conditions of probation/parole or his conditions of release while on bond. He is out on bond with Bowman Bail Bonds.http://www.bowmanbailbonds.com/

Please know Jasper PD has been in contact with officials and trying to get a certain suspect off the streets. Things will only get worse if this person continues to be on the streets and involved in methamphetamine and/or those involved in it.

Good work by all involved... Jasper PD, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and ODET Drug Task Force.

Joplin Police Department investigating thefts from mailboxes

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Mail Thieves

We have experienced several cases of a thief in the night stealing mail from mailboxes.

We are following leads from witnesses but wanted everyone to be aware and to provide some tips to avoid being a victim:

-don't leave your mail in your mailbox overnight

-check your mail as soon as possible after it arrives

-if out of town, make arrangements with the Post Office or someone you trust to get your mail for you

-don't place bills in your mailbox to be picked up by the mail carrier if you can instead get it to a post office drop off box

-As always, watch for and report suspicous vehicles and people to our department
