Five separate exhibits expose Joplin area residents to a wide variety of art now on display at the Spiva Center for the Arts located in the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex. Information about the exhibits and comments from artists themselves are featured on the current Newsmakers program.
Spiva Center for the Arts Executive Director Heather Lesmeister and Marketing Director Paige Mock give details of the 78th annual Joy Spiva Cragin Membership show featuring the works of more than 100 area artists. They discuss winners of the show competition. They offer insights into The Hand Magazine exhibit and another called “What Lies Beneath,” featuring works by the Joplin Regional Arts Coalition.
Video pieces share artists’ perspectives on having their work on display and a project called “Create2Educate: Prone To Wonder” which has works by students in the United States and others in Africa.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.
