Lamar man killed, four children injured as car hits bull in the roadway


A Lamar man was killed and four people injured in a one-vehicle accident 8:09 p.m. Saturday on U. S. 160, four miles north of Golden City.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Isiah A. Pitts, 22, Golden City, struck a bull that was standing in the roadway, traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.







A passenger, Jason L. Hawkins, 44, Lamar, was airlifted to Cox South Hospital, Springfield, where he was pronounced dead 10:32 a.m. today by Dr. Tessa Woods.

Four other passengers, a 2-year-old girl, a 6-year-old girl, a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, were treated for minor injuries at Cox Barton County Hospital, Lamar.

The fatality was the 96th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
