(From Southern News Service)
The Musical Theatre Department at Missouri Southern State University will stage a production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” Thursday, Sept. 30, through Sunday, Oct. 3, in the Bud Walton Black Box Theatre.
Show times will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday matinee.
The 1970 musical comedy – with music and lyrics by Sondheim, and book by George Furth – is about a confirmed bachelor who contemplates his unmarried state over a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding. He’s forced to question his bachelorhood as his friend explain the pros and cons of marriage.
“It’s a high-energy show with singing and dancing,” said Erick Wolfe, chair of the Theatre Department and director of the musical. “It has songs that will be familiar to audiences, including the famous ‘The Ladies Who Lunch,’ which has been performed by Patti LuPone and others.”
Dr. David Sharlow, interim chair of the Music Department, serves as the production’s music director. Ashley Coffer, an adjunct theatre faculty member, serves as assistant director and choreographer.
Seating will be open to 100 audience members per performance.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for senior citizens, members of the military, and students. Children 12 and under are free. They can be purchased online at https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/56176.
