(From the Joplin Police Department)On November 6th, 2021, officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the area of 320 W. 3rd Street along with Joplin Fire Department personnel for a report of a structure fire.
After the blaze was extinguished, the fire was determined have have been started outside of the residence and was considered a suspicious fire. There was extensive damage to the outside of the residence.
A criminal investigation commenced and surveillance video images were found to have captured a suspect wearing very distinct clothing at the scene near the time when the fire started.
Investigators were able to view surveillance video images from a nearby business and found the same suspect was captured on video near the same time as the fire.
Off of those images, investigators were able to positively identify the suspect as Ronald J. Deloney, age 27 of Joplin. On November 14th, Deloney was arrested on an active warrants from Carterville, Missouri.
Following the arrest, investigators were able to develop evidence to confirm Deloney started the fire. A charge of Arson in the 2nd Degree was sent to the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which was filed on November 15th with a $10,000 bond (surety or $2,000 cash).
