MSSU to hold World Music and Cuisine Festival

(From Missouri Southern State University)

The 10th Annual World Music and Cuisine Festival will take place on April 19, 2025, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Missouri Southern State University’s Young Gymnasium.

Students and community members will serve international dishes while a variety of musical groups perform. For $15, guests receive a wristband to access food samples. Countries such as Japan, South Korea, Germany, Mexico, Thailand, Spain, India, Honduras, and more will represent their cuisine alongside local restaurants like Magic Noodle.

Students from MSSU’s Department of Performing Arts will open the festival at 5 p.m. Samba Bom, a Midwest-based Brazilian music ensemble, will perform from 6-7 p.m. and MSSU international students will perform from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“The event has become one of the more popular events held on campus, bringing hundreds of community members to our campus to celebrate the cultures and foods of the world.” said Aaron Carmichael, coordinator of the event and director of the Intensive English Program. “Our international students love it, and it gives them an opportunity to share their culture with the campus and community.”

The proceeds of the festival will help fund the student-led International Club, providing activities and educational opportunities for members.

“It's very special that we’re celebrating our 10th anniversary,” Carmichael explained. “The exciting thing is to see more folks getting involved from both the community and campus to make this event a success. It’s a total volunteer effort, so every person involved sees its value. Let’s hope we will still be at it 10 years from now.”
