Fatality accident update
The name of the deceased passenger in the pickup was identified as Sharifa Taylor, age 42 of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The driver of the pickup was Cedric Holt, age 46 of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The driver of the semi tractor trailer was Patrick Hickey, age 50 of Ardmore, Oklahoma. The crash still remains under investigation by the Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash Team.

On August 22 , 2020 at 07:08 a.m. the Joplin Police Department responded to the westbound 2.8 mile marker on I-44 for a report of crash involving a pickup truck and a semi tractor trailer.
The initial investigation is showing a westbound semi tractor trailer collided with a westbound pickup truck at this location. The driver of the pickup and and a child passenger were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
An adult passenger in the pickup was found deceased at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the semi tractor trailer was not injured.
The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notifications. The Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash Team is on scene and actively working the crash investigation. Further details will be released once they become available.
