Suspect identified in robbery at 66 Coin and Laundry in Duenweg, shooting victim undergoes surgery in KC

(From the Duenweg Police Department)

Today (Friday), at approximately 7:15am the Duenweg Police Department was dispatched to a shots fired call at the 66 Coin and Laundry.

Upon officers' arrival they were met by Duenweg Fire who rendered aid to the victim who had suffered a gunshot wound to the hand. METS ambulance transported the victim where he was then transferred to Kansas City for hand surgery. Sgt. Dalglish and Chief Pearce spent the day working leads, reviewing camera footage from area businesses, and talking with numerous citizens.

It was determined that the individual that had previously robbed the laundry mat was the individual that had returned and did not expect any individuals to be on premise.

The victim, who was now staying in the building came out of his room and observed the individual using stolen keys to access the coin slot of a dispenser mounted on the wall. Our victim was in possession of a firearm and told the suspect to leave. The suspect pretended to be scared and asked the victim not to hurt him before rushing the victim and getting into a scuffle over the weapon.

The suspect was able to free the firearm from the victim and in the process discharged the firearm striking the victim in the hand. The suspect then fled the scene east to the Casey's parking lot where the vehicle he had parked was waiting, he left the parking lot and traveled West on 7th back to an address in Galena KS.

Throughout the day Sgt. Dalglish and Chief Pearce worked closely with Galena PD and were able to identify the suspect involved. Several charges have been filed against the suspect and the victim is doing well.

Thank you to the citizens that came forward today with information, it was extremely helpful.

*This was an isolated incident and at this time there is no belief that any of the general public is at risk.
