Joplin Citizens Police Academy set for August

The Joplin Police Department is proud to announce the upcoming spring session of the Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy is an exciting 14 week program hosted by the police department. This program targets people in our area who want to learn more about the Joplin Police Department. Offered FREE of charge, this hands-on, interactive, behind-the-scenes program is taught by experienced police officers, who share their unique perspective on law enforcement. The classes will be held every Thursday evening starting August 11th from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The CPA will conclude on November 10th with a closing ceremony and dinner. The classes will be held at various locations throughout the City. The class size will be limited to approximately 25 participants.

Topics covered will include: crime scene investigations, narcotics investigations, child abuse investigations, traffic crash investigations, vehicle stops, SWAT operations and equipment, use of force tactics, building clearing, DWI enforcement, and an introduction to the K9 unit. After the class has been completed, a graduation ceremony is held to recognize each participant.

Portion of 26th Street closed for manhole, sewer repairs

A lane closure on 26th Street between Wisconsin and Kansas has occurred starting immediately.

The closure is for repairs to a manhole and sewer.

The road is currently down to one lane traffic.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution in these areas and are urged to utilize alternate routes during this period.

The City would appreciate your patience during this repair.

6/29/2016 Travis M. King, 28 of Joplin, was arrested for Domestic Assault 3rd .

The charges for which the above were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.



Teens injured in ATV rollover

Two Anderson teens were injured in an ATV accident 4:35 p.m. Thursday on Monroe Road, three miles west of Anderson.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Trey K. Patterson, 19, Anderson, driving a 1997 Honda ATV, made a sudden turn which caused the vehicle to overturn, ejecting both occupants.

Patterson and his passenger, Amelia C. Patterson, 15, Anderson, were taken to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, to be treated for serious and moderate injuries, respectively.
