The letters will be delivered to the North Pole and Santa will write back to each child who sends him a letter.

Please address letters to:

Joplin City Hall decorations celebrate past as Newman's Department Store

(From the City of Joplin)

“Tis the Season at Newman’s Department Store” features past images of the City Hall building when it was a flagship department store drawing many to downtown Joplin.

The three-pane painted vinyl panels resemble a stained-glass effect, and compliment last year’s windows, “Santa’s Stop in Joplin” Both were painted by local muralist Sandra Pemberton.

This year’s windows highlight:

• Newman’s Toyland with several memorable toys from days gone day. Look closely to find an old friend – Boomer the Groundhog! Boomer, a former Visit Joplin mascot, wishes everyone a happy holiday!

• Newspaper ads showing what the best dressed were wearing for the holiday season when being dapper meant everything.

Nostalgia is in the details:

• A “Toyland 2nd Floor” sign paying tribute to the work of Robert O. Isaac, Newman’s window decorator from 1946-1956, whose signs and advertisements were done freehand.

• Newman’s brand proudly displayed on hat boxes and seasonal gift boxes.

• “The Stars Are Out for the Holidays”, a past Newman’s holiday advertisement.

Carl Junction National Junior Honor Society food drive a success

(From Carl Junction Schools)

Each year the National Junior Honor Society at the Junior High holds a Thanksgiving food drive in November. This year's food drive was a huge success.

The Junior High collected over 1700 items that benefited Fostering Hope in Carl Junction. Along with the canned food, families also received a gift card for a turkey.

We are so proud of our staff and students for an amazing turnout this year. We were honored to be able to partner with Fostering Hope. Our officers delivered the collected canned goods on the Friday before Thanksgiving break.

Long time Redings Mill fire engine retired

(From the Redings Mill Fire Protection District)

Today we sent one of our fire engines off to greener pastures.

This 2000 KME was the second brand new fire engine the fire district had ever purchased. It served as Engine 1 from 2000 to 2010 until being moved to an outlying station in a lesser used capacity.

It was intended to replace this engine with a new one, but due to today’s market, fire truck prices are at an all -time high, we are forced to buy used. We will share some photos of the new to us engine in the coming weeks.
