Neosho teen injured in collision on Norway Road

A Neosho teen was injured in a two-vehicle accident 9:22 p.m. Wednesday on Norway Road two miles west of Neosho.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2018 Toyota Rav-4 driven by a 20-year-old Carthage woman traveled into the path of a 2010 GMC Yukon driven by a 19-year-old Neosho man.

A passenger in the Neosho man's vehicle, a 15-year-old Neosho boy, was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman Neosho.

Public meetings scheduled on Route 60 improvements in Barry, Lawrence counties

Improvements on Route 60 in Barry & Lawrence Cos. Focus of Public Meetings Starting July 28

The public is invited to participate in public meetings, either in-person or virtually (online), starting Tuesday, July 28, to learn more about plans to make intersection improvements along U.S. Route 60 in Barry and Lawrence counties, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The virtual (online) meeting will be available for two weeks from Monday, July 28, until Tuesday, August 11, and can be accessed at www.modot.org/southwest.

The in-person meeting will be held 4:30-6 p.m., Tuesday, August 4 at the Aurora Recreation Center, 126 W. Hadley St., in Aurora.

Beginning in the spring of 2027, contractor crews resurface Route 60 between Missouri Route 37 in Monett and Missouri Route 14 in Marionville. In addition, the contractor will make intersection improvements at these eight (8) locations along Route 60 in Barry and Lawrence counties:

Roundabout at County Road 1100 east of Monett

In Lawrence County 

Turn lanes at County Road 1160 (Verona)
Turn lanes at Country Road 1180 (Carnation Ave., Aurora)
Turn lanes at Country Road 1200 (Wolfe Rd., Aurora)
Turn lanes at County Road 1235 (Central Ave., Marionville)
Turn lanes at County Road 2000 (Business 60, east of Monett)
Turn lanes at County Road 2210 (Aurora)

As part of the resurfacing of Route 60, the contractor will install permanent striping, rumble strips and guardrail in places.

The estimated cost of the project is $14.2 million.

Jasper, Wichita residents injured in collision

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision 9:20 p.m. Monday on Route M two miles south of Jasper.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2019 Ford F250 driven by a 33-year-old Jasper man turned into the path of a 2011 Ford F150 driven by a 70-year-old Wichita, Kansas man.

Both drivers were treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Joplin.

Joplin Health Department offers tips for dealing with heat

It's been a hot week – and even with cooler temperatures projected over the next few days, the heat of summer isn't over yet.

With an extreme heat warning in effect earlier this week, the City of Joplin is reminding residents to take precautions to keep themselves, loved ones, and pets safe when those conditions occur. City officials encourage everyone to realize the danger that exists in these conditions. Leaving children or pets in vehicles can be especially risky. 

Extreme heat can affect anyone, but older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals with chronic health conditions are especially vulnerable. Whether you're at work, enjoying time with family, or tackling projects at home, remember to take care of yourself and those around you.

A few key tips from the Joplin Health Department:

Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. Try to limit sugary drinks and excessive caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration.

Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning whenever possible, especially if you're working outdoors or spending extended time in the heat.

Dress for the weather by wearing lightweight, light-colored, and breathable clothing.

Reschedule strenuous activities until the coolest time of the day.

Know the signs of heat-related illness. Watch for symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, excessive sweating, or confusion. If you or a coworker experiences these symptoms, move to a cooler area, hydrate, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Minimize direct exposure to the sun, and if you are in the sun, don't forget sunscreen. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours if you are outdoors.

Check on pets and companion animals to ensure they have cool water and shade at all times. Some breeds can’t handle the heat as well as others, so monitor their condition carefully. City officials recommend that animals be brought inside if possible during peak temperatures.

Stay safe, stay cool, and look out for one another as temperatures continue to rise throughout the summer.

Joplin man injured in collision on 96

A Joplin man was injured in a two-vehicle collision 11:45 a.m. today on MO 96 two and a half miles east of Avilla.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2012 GMC Terrain driven by a 61-year-old Joplin woman struck a 2022 Dodge Ram driven by a 25-year-old Lamar man that had slowed to make a turn into a residence.

A passenger in the Joplin woman's a car, a 94-year-old Joplin man, was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Joplin.
