Chuck Niess retires from Joplin Police Department for second time

 (From the Joplin Police Department)

We want to congratulate Chuck Niess who will retire today for the 2nd time from the Joplin Police Department. Chuck originally retired from JPD in 2016 as a Corporal after serving over 20 years for JPD, but he didn’t stay retired for long.

Chuck came back to work for the city in the Wastewater Division and returned back to JPD as a Police Services Assistant in 2019.

Chuck Niess handled lobby calls, telephone reports and performed other administrative police functions in the Professional Standards Bureau.

Chuck’s work was instrumental for the agency as it helped reduce wait times and kept officers out on the street handling other calls.

We are thankful for the many years of dedicated service Chuck Niess gave the citizens of Joplin and the Joplin Police Department. We wish him well and Godspeed as he closes out this chapter. Thank you Chuck and congratulations again!

Pittsburg women arrested on burglary charges

(From the Pittsburg Police Department)

On Thursday morning, December 29, 2022, at approximately 4:14 a.m., officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1700 block of South Walnut Street for a burglary in progress. T

he reporting party called 911 and reported two subjects were stealing tires from his carport. Officers quickly arrived in the area and began searching for the suspects. The reporting party had surveillance cameras and was able to show officers the video footage of the crime as it had just occurred; as well as, video footage from a previous theft of items from the same carport the previous night.

Video surveillance footage from December 28, 2022 showed suspects driving a Buick passenger car stealing items from the carport.

At approximately 4:24 a.m. on December 29, 2022, an officer spotted a 2000 Buick Regal occupied by two females near the area.

The females were identified as 43-yearold Carrie Kay Devore, of Pittsburg, and 41-year-old Kandice Jean Devore, of Pittsburg. During the investigation, officers determined the vehicle driven by Carrie Devore, appeared to be the same vehicle observed in the video surveillance footage of the theft from December 28, 2022.

In the video footage observed from the incident which had just occurred, it was determined the clothing worn by the suspects seen stealing tires from inside the carport, matched the clothing worn by Carrie and Kandice Devore.

Carrie Devore and Kandice Devore were placed under arrest, without incident, and transported to the Crawford County Jail. They were both booked in on one count of burglary of a non-dwelling and misdemeanor theft. Both are being held without bond at this time. The tires stolen from the victim were located on a nearby property and returned to the owner.

Anyone having information related to this incident, or other incidents, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at 620-231-1700, or at our tip line, 620-231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.

Joplin citizens encouraged to participate in FCC review of local wireless connectivity

(From the City of Joplin)

Bring your taxpayer dollars back Joplin!

The City of Joplin is requesting all citizens of Joplin to log data about their internet and speed connectivity through a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) study.

The City is currently soliciting proposals from broadband internet providers to increase and expand Joplin residential and business connectivity and speeds.

As part of this process, we are encouraging residents to follow the below links and instructions to submit their connectivity information to the State of Missouri. This will help update the broadband internet maps and update the Missouri Department of Economic Development which directs resources to build out future internet infrastructure.

Please visit the Federal Communications Commission map portal (Click here ) to see how your home or business is currently shown with regard to internet connectivity and speed. If you see something incorrect, bring it to the attention of government officials by following the challenge process laid out here. This will help identify and capture gaps in service and coverage.

The City of Joplin is well-positioned to improve community-wide broadband access and the City of Joplin needs your help! The federal government has made a once-in-a-generation investment to improve equitable access to broadband services across the country.

The residents and businesses of Joplin have the opportunity to help improve the maps which are used to determine the federal funds the City would be eligible to receive to support connecting Joplin and progressing the City with its Smarter Joplin goals. Deadline for citizens to submit their information is January 13, 2023.

To review your internet connectivity and speed....
