Seneca Police Department makes DWI arrest of man yelling obscenities at pedestrians

(From the Seneca Police Department)

At 846 this morning Seneca PD received a call of a black SUV driving very erratically and speeding on its way into town. Sgt Wilson stopped the vehicle at 43 and Delaware.

At the time of the stop, the passenger was yelling obscenities from inside the vehicle at individuals on the sidewalk. The driver was arrested for DWI, driving while revoked and failure to produce insurance.

The passenger was arrested for open container (she was extremely intoxicated as well as the driver).

It should be noted that other drivers stopped and informed Officers of the erratic driving. Thanks again to the public for calling and helping with this arrest. Good Job Sgt Wilson and Officer Charles.

***
At 645 this morning the Newton County Dispatch informed SPD of a possible stolen van that was being pursued by the Newton County Sheriffs Department.

The van was traveling west on K Highway. Seneca Police (Sgt Wilson) deployed spikes at the East City Limits on K Highway. The Van ran over the spikes, which flattened both front tires.

The van continued west to Highway 43 then south to 60 Highway.

Once at the roundabout the van continued west on 60 (Driving on the rims). The driver pulled into a field at 60 and Cayuga Road.

Bond set at $200,000 for Tulsa man arrested in Cherokee County on human trafficking, kidnapping charges

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

Late Thursday night, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Investigators were made aware that a 23-year-old woman who had been reported missing from Coweta, Oklahoma on December 6th, may be in the area.

Detectives located the woman at an area Gentlemen’s Club, where she had been reportedly driven by a Tulsa man who had physically beat her, forced her to dance for money which he took and had been preventing her from leaving or contacting her family.

“The man who is suspected of repeatedly and violently hurting this woman before transporting her across state lines for the purposes of making him money, has a violent past including a conviction of Shooting with Intent to Kill in Oklahoma,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

“I’m thankful our investigators were able to remove the woman from this situation, get her back to her family, and apprehend the suspect without incident.”

Gary Ballard, 29, of Tulsa, is being held in the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Aggravated Human Trafficking and Aggravated Kidnapping. His bond has been set at $200,000.00.

“This case illustrates the importance for people to know there are resources available to help get them out of dangerous, violent or abusive relationships and situations,” added Sheriff Groves.

The National Human Trafficking Hotline is 1-888-373-7888 and the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233.

There were no boating crashes or drownings over the 2019 Christmas holiday counting period.

Both fatalities occurred in the Troop C, Weldon Spring, area, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2019.

Leon J. Barnett, 48, of De Soto, MO, died when another vehicle struck the motorcycle he was driving. Barnett was traveling at a low rate of speed in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Jefferson County when another vehicle traveling the same direction changed lanes. The front of the second vehicle struck the rear of Barnett’s motorcycle. The impact caused Barnett to be ejected. Barnett was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Joachim-Plattin EMT M. Tawfall, Crystal City, MO, pronounced Barnett deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver of the vehicle that struck him sustained minor injuries; he was wearing a seat belt.

Elizabeth J. Rutledge, 32, of Troy, MO, died when the vehicle she was driving traveled off the right side of the roadway and she overcorrected, causing the vehicle to return to the roadway and overturn. Rutledge was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The crash occurred on Highway H in Silex, MO, in Lincoln County. Lincoln County Ambulance personnel pronounced Rutledge deceased at the scene.

Too many people die in traffic crashes each year in Missouri. The choices you make when you’re behind the wheel matter. Make good choices, so you’ll never have to say, “If I could just go back.”
