Joplin residents arrested on felony warrants after using stolen car to lead officers in two-state pursuit

(From the Joplin Police Department)

This morning at 3:14 a.m. a Joplin Police Officer was on patrol in the area of 500 South Moffet. He observed a vehicle in the alley with the trunk open and a male standing next to it. The officer circled the block to contact the suspicious vehicle.

The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed with the trunk open and items falling from it. The officer believed the occupant(s) was involved in a theft and a pursuit began.

The vehicle fled through the northwest part of town before entering Kansas. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to spike the vehicle in Kansas. Galena, Kansas Police Department also attempted to spike the vehicle. While in pursuit in Galena, another vehicle attempted to cut off officers and block the pursuit.

The pursuit continued south to the Downstream Exit and then Westbound on I-44. The pursuit continued to the Miami, Oklahoma Exit and entered Miami, Oklahoma. The pursuit then went eastbound on Highway 10 and Newton County, Missouri Deputies were able to successfully deploy spike strips and the pursuit re-entered Missouri.

The pursuit continued northbound on 43 Highway over I-44 and Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies spiked the vehicle a second time. The vehicle continued to the bridge Near Zan’s creek and came to a stop. A male and female were taken into custody.

Joseph W. Hood, 36, Joplin, and Nicole L. Teague, 32, Joplin, were arrested out of the vehicle. Hood had seven Jasper County Felony warrants for Possession, Creation and distribution of a controlled substance and a weapons violation warrant out of Newton County and Teague had two forgery warrants, trafficking id’s warrant and a passing bad checks warrants all out of Jasper County.

Hood was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, felony resisting by fleeing and possession of burglar tools. After the subjects were in custody it was found that the car they were in was stolen. Hood also faces first degree tampering charges and Teague Second Degree Tampering Charges.

Further investigation into their activities and the property in the vehicle is on-going. Numerous items were thrown from the vehicle at numerous times during the pursuit as well by the occupants.

The vehicle that attempted to cut off the pursuit was contacted by Kansas Authorities and warrant arrests occurred. We appreciate the agencies that all assisted our officers in this case.

Two arrested for convenience store robbery, including store's clerk

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

Two suspects have been arrested following an investigation into a robbery at The Quik Shop Convenience Store in Weir last month.

On the morning of December 14th, 2018, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the store where the clerk reported being accosted as she opened for the day and was forced to give money to the suspect, who then secured her in the walk in cooler before fleeing out the back door.

The investigation led to the Tuesday night arrests of Dakota Jones, 30, of McCune, and 44 year-old Jeri Davis, of Weir.

“During the course of the investigation, we learned Davis, who was the clerk reporting the robbery, and Jones, concocted a scheme to steal money from the store,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

Both suspects are being held in the Cherokee County Jail in connection to the case. Jones has been charged with Robbery, Kidnapping, Theft and Obstruction of Justice. His bond has been set at $50,000.00.

Davis is being held in lieu of $26,500.00 bond on allegations of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Theft, Obstruction of Justice, and Falsely Reporting a Crime.

“This case was frustrating, not only because one of our local businesses was victimized, but because the criminal scheme we suspect these two hatched caused concern by residents who thought a potentially violent robber was in their neighborhood.”

“I’m glad the work done by the deputies and investigators involved in this case led to the arrests of these suspects so they can be appropriately held accountable,” concluded Sheriff Groves.

Lamar man injured in accident near Lockwood

Konrady was treated for moderate injuries at Cox Barton County Hospital, Lamar.

Carthage woman cited for DWI after crash on 171

A Carthage woman was charged with driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle crash 7:50 p.m. Tuesday on MO 171, three-quarters of a mile north of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Dodge Dakota driven by Marissa E. Dumire, 28, Carthage, ran off the roadway and struck several trees.

Dumire was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage.

Joplin, Jasper County 911 services now accepting Text-to-911

(From Jasper County Emergency Management Services)

Both Joplin and Jasper County 9-1-1 Services announced today that they are accepting Text-to-9-1-1 for their service area.

All AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and United States Cellular customers can now send a text message (up to 140 characters) to both Joplin and Jasper County 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Text to 9-1-1 should only be used in an emergency situation, when placing a call is not possible; For instance, if the caller is deaf, hard-of-hearing, speech impaired, or when speaking out loud would put the caller in danger. If there is an emergency and you are unable to make a call, remember these steps:

 Don’t text and drive

 In the first text message send the specific location and specific details of the emergency.

 Text in simple words – Send a short text message without abbreviations or slang.

 Be prepared to answer questions and follow instructions from the 9-1-1 call taker. Don’t Abuse 9-1-1 – Text-to-9-1-1 service is ONLY for emergencies.

 It is a crime to text or call 9-1-1 with a false report. Prank-texters can be located and prosecuted The Text-to-9-1-1 service will have many challenges.

 A text or data plan is required to place a Text-to-9-1-1.

 As with all text messages, messages to 9-1-1 may take longer to receive, may get out of order, or may not be received at all.

 If you do not receive a text response from 9-1-1, try to call 9-1-1.

 If texting in an area that does not have Text-to-9-1-1 services, you will receive a “bounce back” message telling you that Text-to-9-1-1 is not available and to call 9-1-1.

 Photos and videos cannot be sent to 9-1-1 at this time.

 Text-to-9-1-1 cannot include more than one person. Do not send group texts or your emergency text to anyone other than 9-1-1.

 Cellular devices do not provide accurate location information when texting to 9-1-1, so know your location and be specific when providing it during a 9-1-1 text or call.

 Language translation services are not available currently, so your text must be in English.

 Voice Calls to 9-1-1 Are Still the Best and Fastest Way to Contact 9-1-1 Remember, Text-to-9-1-1 service is not available everywhere, so know your location and the capabilities of the 9-1-1 center you are closest to

Midtown Man from original cast of Jersey Boys to perform in Joplin

(From Connect2Culture)

THE MIDTOWN MEN, stars from the original Broadway cast of Jersey Boys, will perform Saturday, March 9, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at Joplin High School Performing Arts Center (2104 Indiana Ave, Joplin, MO 64804).

This will be the fourth of five performances included in Connect2Culture’s 2018-2019 Curtains Up Series.

TheMIDTOWN MEN took Broadway by storm in one of the biggest hits of all-time. Now on their ninth national tour, THE MIDTOWN MEN are bringing their magic to audiences everywhere, singing their favorite "Sixties Hits" from The Beatles, The Rascals, The Turtles, Motown, The Four Seasons, and more.

This sensational production reunites stars from the Original Broadway Cast of Jersey Boys. Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer star in this one-of-a-kind concert experience celebrating the music that defined the '60s. These talented entertainers shared the Broadway stage for over a thousand performances in the mega-hit Jersey Boys.

Now, as THE MIDTOWN MEN, they’ve thrilled crowds on concert stages across the US, Canada and in Beijing and Venice, performing over 850 shows and singing with 37 major symphony orchestras.

They’ve delighted television audiences on “The Today Show,” "Good Morning America," "Access Hollywood," "Katie," and "The Chew." The Men are often heard nationwide on SiriusXM radio. They recently taped a MY FAB FOUR show for The Beatles Channel; in December 2017 they joined rocker Tommy James to star in Cousin Brucie’s Holiday Special; in June they starred in Cousin Brucie’s Palisades Park Reunion Show VI; and in December 2018 they starred alongside music legends Dee Dee Sharp, Gary US Bonds and Chubby Checker in Cousin Brucie’s Holiday Hop.

THE MIDTOWN MEN’s first radio single, "All Alone on Christmas," was written and produced by rock icon and Sopranos and Lilyhammer star Steven Van Zandt and backed by members of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. It plays seasonally nationwide on terrestrial radio and on Sirius XM’s Underground Garage. Their new holiday single, a fun cover of the Beach Boys’ “Little Saint Nick,” premiered nationally on Sirius XM’s 60s on 6 and was featured in their holiday playlist.

The group has released two successful public television concert specials: The Midtown Men Live in Concert, and Meet the Midtown Men, a documentary that goes behind the music. Both air in markets nationally.

Don't miss this electrifying and soulful new production with its top-shelf choreography, incredible vocal performances, and legendary onstage chemistry. Not a Performance Of, Not Affiliated With the Show Jersey Boys.

Veterans are encouraged to bring with them any military or VA records they have in their possession. This will enable the Veterans Clinic to provide better assistance to individual Veterans.

With nearly a half million veterans, Missouri has the 15th largest population of those who served in the armed forces.

"We are excited to launch Tigers for Troops in southwest Missouri where so many of our veterans are in need of assistance related to their military service and the benefits owed to them," said Angela Drake, director of the Veterans Clinic at MU's School of Law. "Tigers for Troops is designed to help veterans on behalf of a grateful nation by pairing passionate students and seasoned lawyers with those most in need."

Working with MU Extension, Veterans Clinic attorneys and law students will visit 73 rural counties over the next two years to educate and assist veterans. The Tigers for Troops program is the result of an agreement between the clinic and the Missouri Housing Development Commission.
