Joplin Fire Department to conduct water safety training
(From the Joplin Fire Department)The Joplin Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team will conduct a series of water rescue and boat operations trainings the evening of Aug. 20 at McIndoe Park in Joplin.
The trainings will be held from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will include multiple realistic training scenarios. The team will be practicing advanced boat handling, rescue maneuvers, and emergency response operations. The trainings are designed to enhance the capabilities of rescuers during water-related emergencies.
During the trainings, residents and visitors could notice a significant increase in boat traffic and water activity, which will create larger-than-normal waves on the water. Boaters, anglers and other recreational users of the waterway are encouraged to exercise caution and be aware of training activities occurring in the area during these hours. The team will be working to minimize disruptions while conducting the scenarios.
For more information, contact Deputy Fire Chief Andy Nimmo at 417-624-0820 ext. 1301.
