The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded five school districts funding to replace aging school buses with cleaner running versions through the Missouri Clean Diesel Program.
The following districts will receive awards of up to 25% of the cost of a new school bus, with a maximum of $20,000 per recipient:
- · Clever R-V School District
- · Hannibal Public Schools
- · Joplin Schools
- · Ozark R-6 School District
- · West County R-IV School District
Funding for this project is provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Emission Reduction Act (DERA) State Clean Diesel Program. The grants are administered by the Department of Natural Resources’ Early School Bus Replacement Program.
The Department of Natural Resources is committed to reducing pollution in Missouri. Controlling diesel emissions from school buses can have a significant impact, as children are more susceptible to the health effects of diesel emissions because of their developing respiratory systems. The goal of programs aimed at reducing diesel emissions is to improve air quality in the interest of protecting public health and the environment.
