Neosho Police Department warms of arrest warrant scam

(From the Neosho Police Department)

The Neosho Police Department is alerting residents about an active phone scam targeting individuals in the Neosho area. The department has received multiple reports of residents being contacted by a caller claiming to be a Sheriff’s Deputy, Police Officer or other Law Enforcement.

In each case, the caller provides personal information related to the individual and states that they
have an active arrest warrant. The caller then sends fraudulent “documents” by text message to make
the claim appear legitimate. The caller ultimately demands payment, typically through gift cards, to resolve the supposed warrant.

Residents are urged to educate themselves to avoid becoming victims of a scam.

Law enforcement does not:

• Request payment over the phone

• Accept gift cards, prepaid cards, wire transfers, or digital app payments

• Send warrants or legal documents by text message

• Threaten arrest to force someone to pay

Residents should be alert for:

• Requests for payment by gift card

• High-pressure threats or urgent demands

• Instructions to keep the call secret

• Unsolicited legal documents sent via text

What To Do If You Receive One of These Calls

• Stay calm

• Do not provide any personal information

• Do not send money in any form

• Hang up immediately

• Contact the Neosho Police Department to report the scam or verify the call

These scams continue because they rely on fear and quick reactions. By understanding how the scam works and discussing it with friends and family, residents can help stop the spread of this fraudulent activity.

To Report a Scam or to get more information, contact the Neosho Police Department at 417-451-8012.

Crowder College Calf Auction scheduled at Joplin Regional Stockyards

(From Crowder College)

Crowder College Agriculture Division will hold its 13th Annual Calf Fundraiser Auction on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, 11am, at the Joplin Regional Stockyard. This year’s calf is donated by Dr. Dale and Diane Kunkel, Kunkel Farms, in Neosho, MO.

Each year, the Newton McDonald County Cattlemen’s Association has a local farmer who donates a beef calf for the benefit of Crowder Aggies. These funds provide opportunities for students in our agriculture programs to attend workshops, conferences and contests throughout the year.

Joplin Regional Stockyards will bring the March 1, 2025 registered red angus heifer into the ring at 11am to sell with many of the purchasers donating the calf back to auction again with the last bidder taking her home.

Last year’s calf raised nearly $6,000 for Crowder Agriculture. Besides the bidders the following businesses help sponsor the event: Missouri Cattlemen’s Association (Newton & McDonald Counties), Joplin Regional Stockyards, FarmTalk, B&M Tire, Hunke Spray Services, S & H Farm Supply, Eubanks Equipment, SmartLic Supplements, DD Farm & Feed, B&M Tire – Yokohama, Goswick Ag Lime & Fertilizer, Superior Steel Sales, Frye Farm Trailers, 4-State Moto Complex, The 808 Ranch, Red Angus Association, and Cornerstone Bank.

Dr. Chett Daniel, Crowder College President, commented, “We sincerely appreciate the calf donation from the Kunkel family. As local farmers and small business owners in the area, they are truly invested in the success of our region and its young people. The Cattlemen’s Association continues to be one of Crowder’s strongest community partners. Our students and the ag program are incredibly fortunate to have cattlemen’s association in our corner.”

Crowder College’s Agriculture Division offers transfer and workforce degrees in a variety of programs. For more information visit our website: https://www.crowder.edu/academics/departments/agriculture/

MSSU campus renovations to be featured on Newsmakers

(From KGCS)

Each year, hundreds of students enjoy food and socializing at the Mayes Dining Hall and Student Life Center but that also means wear and tear on furnishings and aging spaces. Renovations are approved and coming soon to the Mayes Student Life Center. Those and other campus improvements are the focus of the next Newsmakers program.

MSSU Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Lisa Toms and student senate representative Gerardo Martinez discuss how input from students helped shape plans for a coffee bar, gaming area, study rooms and improved lighting and furnishings. Andrea Cullers and Martinez share improvements to the campus tennis courts and its funding. MSSU President Dr. Dean Van Galen and Associate Vice President of Admissions and Enrollment Dr. Shellie Hewitt give an update on construction of the new Roy Blunt Health Sciences Innovation Center. Director of Athletics Rob Mallory updates expedited work on the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center renovation project. Plus, a video story on the reshaping of a classroom into a public relations lab.
