E 15th Street in Joplin reopens after stormwater improvements

East 15th Street is now open following progress on stormwater improvements in the area between Highview Avenue and Mississippi Avenue. This work was part of the stormwater project in the Texas Avenue area, and was one of the nine stormwater projects being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)

The road is currently drivable, and final paving will be completed in the coming weeks. Asphalt plants operate seasonally, and paving requires consistently warmer temperatures to ensure a quality, long-lasting surface.

Projects such as these improve stormwater flow through the area and reduce the risk of flooding on roadways and properties after rain events. Installing concrete inlets, stormwater boxes, and larger pipes helps ensure efficient water flow and mitigate flooding in the area.
