Manhunt discontinued for suspect in Baxter Springs area

The search for a suspect alleged to have committed crimes in Oklahoma who fled from Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Baxter Springs City Police has been discontinued. 

Ground units will continue heavy patrols in the area and residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and homes and call 620-848-3000 if the observe a suspicious person. As of this time, we have NO cause to believe he is armed or dangerous.

Law enforcement officials were searching for a suspect north of Baxter Springs. Ground units involved included the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Baxter Springs Police Department, Kansas and Oklahoma Highway Patrols and an aircraft unit from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The suspect fled from Oklahoma authorities before entering Kansas, abandoning the motorcycle he was riding and fleeing on foot in a wooded area near the high school.

Joplin Police searching for man missing since Mother's Day

The Joplin Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public in locating Lee Allen Friel. 

Lee is listed as missing and was last seen by family around Mother’s Day of this year. Lee is 46 years old, approximately 5’09” and 170 lbs. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Highway Patrol Troop D announces Labor Day enforcement operations

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces that Troop D will participate in Labor Day weekend enforcement operations. 

These operations' objective is to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes. 

Throughout the holiday weekend, troopers within Troop D and throughout the state will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort). This means every available officer will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists.

In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop D will be participating in the statewide special enforcement operation during peak travel periods on Friday, September 1, and Monday, September 4. 

During this operation, troopers will be assigned to 20-mile sections of Interstate 44. Enforcement efforts on secondary roads will be conducted during the same timeframe within Troop D. 

This year’s Labor Day weekend counting period is from 6 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017, to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017.

Crowder College Community Choir seeking new members

The Crowder College Community Choir will begin meeting for the fall semester on Monday, September 11, 7pm in Room 124 in Elsie Plaster Center, Crowder College, Neosho.

The group will practice every Monday for one hour in preparations for the Christmas Gala which will be held December 2, at the Neosho Civic. “We will prepare a program of Traditional Christmas favorites this year,” stated Becky Shaw, Choral Music Instructor.

New members are always welcome to become part of this diverse group as we have high school age to Silver Singer status participants.
