Manhunt discontinued for suspect in Baxter Springs area

The search for a suspect alleged to have committed crimes in Oklahoma who fled from Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Baxter Springs City Police has been discontinued. 

Ground units will continue heavy patrols in the area and residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and homes and call 620-848-3000 if the observe a suspicious person. As of this time, we have NO cause to believe he is armed or dangerous.

Law enforcement officials were searching for a suspect north of Baxter Springs. Ground units involved included the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Baxter Springs Police Department, Kansas and Oklahoma Highway Patrols and an aircraft unit from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The suspect fled from Oklahoma authorities before entering Kansas, abandoning the motorcycle he was riding and fleeing on foot in a wooded area near the high school.
