Barton County Sheriff's Report December 23

Burglary investigated in Burgess
On 12-18-2014 deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to Burgess on a report of a burglary. It was reported that a man was seen inside an outbuilding behind a home when a child took the trash out. The parent went outside with a firearm to try and locate the subject but didn't see him. The property owner did state that a shot was fired into a bail of hay to get the subject to go away if he was still there. The investigation continues in the case.

Tools stolen in rural Lamar burglary

On 12-17-2014 a Burglary was reported on NW 10th rd North of Lamar. It was reported that numerous tools was stolen from the property. The investigation is ongoing.
Domestic disturbance broken up at McDonald's
On 12-16-2014 a Domestic disturbance was reported at McDonalds in Lamar. It was reported that a couple had been fighting in a vehicle in the parking lot. On arrival the subjects was separated and interviewed on what had occurred. During a search of the vehicle items believed to be drug paraphernalia was located. Lacie J. Ford, age 33, of Sheldon was detained and issued a summons for being in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later released to a family member. A couple hours later the Sheriff’s office received a second complaint of the two in another fight at a residence on NW 43rd lane in Barton County. On arrival the two again was separated and a civil standby was conducted. The male subject was transported away from the residence.

Kansas pursuit ends in Mindenmines

On 12-15-2014 deputies assisted the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office with a pursuit which entered into Barton County north of Mindenmines. The pursuit traveled through several of the city streets and into yards of home owners in Mindenmines. The pursuit continued southbound on SW 150th lane to the intersection of SW 80th rd where the vehicle failed to make a T-intersection. The driver was taken into custody at the end of the chase. Two other subjects fled from the vehicle on foot. Deputy Luce and his K9 partner Hondo was able to locate the other two subjects who was hiding in a brushy area a short distance away from where the pursuit ended. All three subects was trasported back to the Barton County Jail.

Items stolen from farm west of Liberal

On 12-14-2014 a report of items being stolen from a farm west of Liberal was reported. The victim in the case believes the items was stolen sometime in the last week. Items stolen are believed to been taken to a recycling center. The case is still under investigation.

House shot in Lbieral

On 12-11-2014 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence in Liberal on Ball Park drive on a report of a house being shot. The victim was inside the home when the home was shot. The victim advised that four shots was heard when all of a sudden glass broke inside the home. The investigation continues into the incident.

Charges filed against Lamar man after jail fight

On 12-10-2014 an assault occurred in the jail at the Sheriff’s Office. Two inmates at breakfast time got into a verbal disagreement and a physical altercation took place. The subjects was quickly seperated and criminal charges where filed against a Patrick K. Sheat, age 31, of Lamar for assault.

Purse stolen in Golden City

On 12-08-2014 a report was taken of a stealing case in Golden City at Sherry’s store. It was reported that two female subjects was in the store and stole purses. The investigation continues.

Bicycle stolen

On 12-07-2014 at about 5:40am Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 1766 NW 36th rd for a stealing in progress. The reporting party had stated someone stole their bicycle and her husband was chasing after them. When the deputy arrived on scene he spoke with the victim and found that he had recovered his bike from the suspect. It was reported that it was a male and a female subject he had contacted.

Tires cut at party

On 12-06-2014 a report of tires being punctured was taken at a residence off of A hwy. It was reported that a subject who was at the gathering was asked to leave from the property due to his actions. It was reported he was upset when asked to leave and was the person they suspected in the property damage. The suspect was interviewed and denied having anything to do with the damage. The investigation continues in this case.
