(From KGCS)Career focused learning is at the heart of a plan to create industry and service-related academies at Joplin High School. Hands-on education that is job skill focused is already offered at Franklin Technical School but those opportunities will be expanded across the student body. JHS Principal Dr. Randy Oliver and FTC Director Kaci Dorton explain the new strategy on this week’s Newsmakers.
The new Career Academies plan began with a rollout of Freshman Academy classes. Students can enroll now for next year’s academies that include: Arts & Communication, Business & Information Technology, Health Sciences, Human Services and Technical Sciences.
JHS alum Bryan Vowels and Joplin Schools Superintendent Dr. Kerry Sachetta discuss the Joplin High School Hall of Fame which is entering its third year. Vowels shares the selection process and benefit of the recognitions.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of December 8 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, December 14 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.
KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
