10/28//2024 Officer took a report of a bicycle stolen from a yard in the 800 block of Cherry St. Investigation continues.

10/28/2024 Officer took a report of items stolen from a residence in the 1100 bock of E. 18th St. Investigation continues.

10/28/2024 Officer took a report of property damage to a vehicle at Walmart. Investigation continues.

10/29/2024 Officer was dispatched to a vehicle vs pedestrian accident at 10th & Broadway. Pedestrian was transported to Cox Barton County Hospital with minor injuries.

10/30/2024 Officers were dispatched to Walmart regarding a trespassing that just occurred. Investigation continues.

10/31/2024 Officers were dispatched to the First Baptist Church regarding a verbal disturbance. One person was placed under arrest for Assault 4th Degree and Property Damage 2nd Degree. Suspect was transported to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and placed on a 24 hr. hold.

11/01/2024 Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Broadway St for a verbal domestic in progress. Parties separated for the evening.

11/01/2024 Officer was dispatched to Baldwins Auto for a stolen trailer. Investigation continues.

11/02/2024 Officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of 9th & Jefferson St. after seeing a subject who had Barton County warrants driving the car. A search of the vehicle was made and contraband was discovered and seized. Driver was transported to the Barton County Jail Three summonses were also issued: Minor in Possession of Alcohol, Open Container and Drug Paraphernalia.

Veterans Day events scheduled at MSSU

Missouri Southern invites students, employees, and community members to join us in celebrating Veterans Day with events dedicated to honoring those who have served our country during the week of November 9 - 15.

 
MSSU will host several events open to the community including a free concert by the Missouri National Guard’s 135th Army Band on Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m. in Taylor Performing Arts Center. 

A special Veterans Day Luncheon is also slated on November 11 from 12 - 1 p.m. in Billingsly Student Center’s ballroom on the third floor. This gathering will serve as a heartfelt tribute to our veterans, active services members, and their families, providing an opportunity to fellowship while expressing gratitude for their sacrifice and dedication.

 
Additionally, as part of the festivities, students, and staff from the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will offer an outdoor rock-climbing wall event on Wednesday, November 13. Students will have the chance to challenge themselves physically while engaging in a fun activity that honors our veterans.

Community veterans are also invited to attend, creating a shared experience of camaraderie and respect.
“It is essential that we remember and honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces,” said Maghan Alberts, the coordinator of Veteran Services at MSSU. 

“Their dedication and sacrifice to defend our nation deserve our utmost respect. As the veteran services coordinator, I have had the privilege of supporting veterans in their pursuit of higher education at MSSU—their commitment and bravery are truly admirable, and it is an honor to assist them on their educational journey.”

 
The Veterans Day Luncheon and climbing wall event are part of MSSU's commitment to supporting our veteran students and fostering an inclusive environment. The university’s dedicated Veteran Services team, led by Alberts, is available to assist veterans in accessing educational resources, financial aid, and support systems.

Joplin Little Theatre to present "Elf: The Musical"

Joplin Little Theatre has announced its next production, “Elf The Musical,”to be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 23, 7:30 p.m. and Sun day, Nov. 24, 2:30 p.m. 

The production is based on the book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, with music by Matthew Skyler and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. It is based on the New Line Cinema film by David Berenbaum. Elf the Musical is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performances materials are also supplied by MTI. 

This production is directed and choreographed by Lisa Olliges Green, with additional choreography by Allyson Briley and Anne Marie Wright. The production is dedicated to the memory of Heather Haar Briley. 

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. 

With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
