The Neosho Police Department is warning residents about scammers spoofing the department’s phone number, (417) 451-8012, and falsely claiming to be members of law enforcement.

Caller ID can be manipulated, so even if the correct Police Department number appears on your screen, the call may not actually be coming from NPD.

When in doubt, hang up and verify. Call the Neosho Police Department directly at (417) 451-8012 or call City Hall at (417) 451-8050 and ask to be transferred.

Please note that N. Valley Street on the north side of Coler will remain closed until the morning of Thursday, September 24. N. Valley Street south of Coler will remain closed.

North Heights Porchfest featured on Newsmakers program

Ten years of live music on porches and lawns is celebrated October 10th at the annual North Heights Porchfest. 

The anniversary event along with Restaurant week preceding it are the focus of the next Newsmakers program.

Angela Hudson with the Downtown Joplin Alliance and Rick Tracy of the band Tough Luck Chuck discuss plans for the 10th annual Porchfest with added main stage performances to the more than 30 homes and businesses hosting musicians. There will be food vendors, community art projects and a neighborhood history booth. 

Jackie Hackett, owner of Hackett Hot Wings, joins the conversation to discuss Restaurant Week drink specials the week leading up to Porchfest. She and Hudson share the importance of bringing focus to downtown eateries and businesses.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of September 27 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, October 3 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS-TV programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.

Route 248 bridge near Cassville open to traffic

TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 248 Bridge Over Flat Creek OPEN in Barry County

Where: Missouri Route 248 Bridge over Flat Creek in Barry County northeast of Cassville

When: As of 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, September 22

Details: The bridge was closed in March to allow contractor crews to replace it with a new structure. The new bridge is 70 feet longer, eight (8) feet wider, seven (7) feet higher. In addition, the contractor added permanent pavement markings and installed guardrail and object markers at either end of the bridge.
