Joplin Police Department reports 24 thefts from vehicle this month, 280 in 2022

(From the Joplin Police Department)

The Joplin Police Department has seen a recent influx in the number of theft from vehicle cases in the City of Joplin and we want to remind everyone of helpful tips to avoid becoming a victim.

One of the easiest ways to avoid someone stealing items from your vehicle is to lock your car doors.

Several incidents of thefts reported to the Joplin Police Department have involved vehicles being left unlocked and easily accessible by suspects.

Additionally, do not leave valuable items inside your vehicle. Practice taking those items inside at night or locking them in security compartments inside the vehicle. Officers are taking reports for thefts of firearms, purses/wallets, and expensive electronics.

At minimum, do not leave valuable items in plain view.

Following these simple tips can help you from becoming a victim and can reduce the amount of theft incidents we are seeing inside the city. So far in 2022, there have been 280 “Theft From Vehicle” cases reported to Joplin PD. 24 of those cases have occurred so far this month.
