(From the Joplin Police Department)On May 14th, 2022, the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from an UBER driver who advised he was just shot at near the intersection of 23rd and McCoy Avenue.
Joplin Police Officers responded to the area and made contact with the victim who advised he responded to the area to pick up a customer and was approached by an intoxicated individual dressed in a black shirt and black pants.
Due to the individual acting erratically, the driver left without giving him a ride and upon leaving the driver advised he was shot at multiple times. Officers did locate a bullet hole in the read door of his vehicle.
The victim in this case was not injured.
Officers responded to the area of the shooting and located spent bullet casings and also an identification card of an individual matching the description of the suspect.
Officers responded to the suspect’s residence at an apartment in the 1800 block of west 24th Street and surrounded the apartment and made announcements for the suspect to exit. The suspect exited the residence and was detained without incident.
He was still wearing the same clothing described from the shooting and he was positively identified as the suspect from the shooting.
A handgun was also seized by officers during his arrest.
The suspect was identified as Daniel A. Colon, age 24 of Joplin.
Following his arrest, charges against Daniel Colon were forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. A warrant for Unlawful Use of Weapons (Class B Felony) was filed with a bond set at $100,000 cash.
