Two injured in crash near Seneca

Two Oklahoma residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident 4:40 p.m. Friday on MO 43 two miles north of Seneca.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Johnny T. Taylor, 27, Joplin was trying to pass and met an oncoming 1999 Toyota Rav4 driven by Patsy Headrick, 54, Bluejacket. Trying to avoid a head-on collision, Taylor swerved and struck the Headrick vehicle in the front right corner.

Two passengers in the Headrick vehicle, Cindy A. Deston, 52, and Glen Deston, 65, both of Bluejacket were taken to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, with moderate injuries.

Update provided on 171/43 roundabout construction

Route 171/Route 43 Roundabout Construction
Update for Week of August 4, 2014
 
Work scheduled:
  • Roundabout scheduled to open to two lanes Saturday evening (August 2)
  • Building concrete islands
  • Installing overhead sign trusses at night
  • Landscaping, applying grass seed and mulch
  • Cleaning up in areas
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
Traffic Impacts:
  • Lane closing possible at times
  • At least one lane open in each direction at all times
Project Background:
  • Build two-lane roundabout at Route 171/Route 43 intersection in Airport Drive
  • Widen Route 171 to five-lanes (two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane) between Route 43 to just east of Fir Road
  • Prime Contractor: APAC, Springfield
  • Completion Date: August 28, 2014
  • Construction Cost: $2.6 million
