Joplin Police Department DWI Arrests August 8-9

The Joplin Police Department arrested the following people for driving while intoxicated:

Benjamin Eric Ferrand, 29, Monett
Shanna Rose Gonzalez, 32, Joplin (DUI, drugs)
Nicholas Ryan Johnson, 21, Joplin
Michele Marie White, 43, Wyandotte, Oklahoma

One injured in accident near Carthage

One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident 10:25 a.m. today on I-49, four miles north of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2008 International driven by Rocky L. Moore, 49, Humboldt, Iowa, traveled off the right side of the road, the driver overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Moore was treated at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, for minor injuries.

The Missouri Highway Patrol arrested the following people for driving while intoxicated:

Joel R. Allen, 37, Council Bluffs, Iowa (boating while intoxicated)
James M. Gibbs, 28, Joplin
Cathrine L. Vines, 61, Bolivar
Mark D. Heffernan, 49, St. Louis (boating while intoxicated)

City of Joplin schedules wood chip giveaways

The City of Joplin will provide free wood chip giveaways on Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16. The City will load wood chips from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Bring a truck or trailer to the wood chip site, and City employees will use heavy equipment to load the wood chips for you. THIS FREE EVENT IS OPEN TO EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF RESIDENCY. The wood chip site is located at 1702 North Schifferdecker Avenue, 6/10 (six tenths) of a mile north of the intersection of Belle Center Road, commonly known as Snow Ball Hill between Zora and Belle Center. Look for the sign and turn onto the driveway on the west side of Schifferdecker Avenue.

The chips are derived from many different trees that came down in the December 2013 ice storm. They are then mixed together during the grinding process.
