McDonald County prisoner escapes

Inmate Virgil Jay Potarf walked off of a work detail tonight around 7 p.m. from the detention center. 

Potarf has a history of assault while he is intoxicated and has a history of alcohol and drug abuse.

Potarf has friends and family all around McDonald County.

Suspects captured after armed robbery at 15th Street Wal-Mart

On January 3, 2016 at 1:04 p.m. officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1501 South Range Line for a reported armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim stated that as she had just finished placing groceries into her vehicle when she was approached by another female. The suspect displayed a black handgun and demanded the victim turn over her purse. The suspect then entered a vehicle driven by a male and fled the scene with the victims purse and property. 

After putting the suspects’ description and vehicle information out to area agencies, the suspects were located and stopped by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol at a toll booth in Craig County Oklahoma.
The female suspect, Alyssa M. Guevara, 28, of Bernice Oklahoma is being charged with First Degree Robbery in the Jasper County. 

The male suspect and driver of the vehicle was Joel McGuire, 28, of Guthrie Oklahoma is also being charged with First Degree Robbery in Jasper County. 

Both subjects are currently confined in the Craig County Jail. Formal charges in Jasper County are pending review of the County Prosecutor’s office.

The charges for which the above were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

Neosho residents injured in three-vehicle crash on 60

Two Neosho residents were injured in a three-vehicle accident 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on U. S. 60, one mile east of Neosho.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2016 GMC 2500 driven by Shane S. Smith, 35, Neosho, failed to yield to a 1995 Plymouth Neon driven by Johnathon A. Hilton, 20, Neosho, and pulled into its path. The Hilton vehicle struck the Smith vehicle on the passenger side causing it to strike a 2012 Chcvrolet Tahoe driven by Amanda L. Hurn, 27, Neosho.

Hilton was treated for minor injuries at Freeman Neosho, Hurn was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Goodman woman charged with DWI following accident on Lark Road

A Goodman woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident 4 a.m. today on Lark Road, two miles north of Goodman.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Jacquelyn K. Donaldson, 32, Goodman, began traveling on a closed portion of the roadway, struck a barrier and a fence.

Donaldson, who was treated for minor injuries at Freeman Neosho, was also charged with careless and imprudent driving and for not having any insurance.

Goodman residents injured in crash east of Neosho

Two Goodman residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash 8:45 a.m. today on Norway Road, four miles east of Neosho.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1995 Toyota Corolla driven by Cory W. Foster, 27, Goodman, failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck broadside by a 1996 Chevrolet pickup driven by Keith A. Taylor, 52, Granby. The Foster vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Foster and a passenger in his vehicle, Ashley M. Vance, 27, Goodman, were treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
