(From KGCS)The death rate for those dealing with breast cancer has declined 44 percent since 1989, yet 1 in 8 women will still face this life-threatening disease. In the next Newsmakers, we learn early detection is the key to survival, and a local group is helping make that detection possible for those who are underinsured or completely without insurance.
Sharon Clark, President of Hope 4 You and member Brenlee Buerge explain how the charity raises funds for area hospitals to provide free mammograms and the importance of breast self-examination. Dr. Lisa Toms and Student Senate President Eisha Alam discuss the Night of Hope event that will take place on campus October 26th. Lisa Nelson, manager of Pink Door Boutique at the Freeman Women’s Pavilion talks about products helpful to cancer patients like specialized, bras, camisoles, and wigs.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of October 11 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.
