Public input is being sought regarding the potential for a new annual, signature festival for the Joplin region. Some areas of consideration include: themes or historical references for an event; the activities that could be included in such an event; as well as the logistics of a large community activity including time of year and location.
A meeting for the public to discuss these areas will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, in the Basement Conference Room of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main.
This planning meeting is being facilitated by the City and in partnership with the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Joplin Convention & Visitors Bureau (JCVB). What role, if any, these organizations would support is undetermined at this time.
“The meeting is to collect input from individuals, civic organizations as well as business interest regarding their perspective on a community festival,” said Patrick Tuttle, director of the Joplin CVB. “This preliminary planning meeting does not guarantee that any event idea or concept are being considered or that a festival will ultimately occur. This meeting is to gauge the level of interest from the community in regards to holding such an annual every event.”
In addition to the public input, Tuttle hopes a list of names will be started who could potentially serve as members of the planning committee. He said, “For someone to say they are putting on a festival is one thing, but to implement an action plan to achieve a successful event, it takes many hours during several months of planning and coordination by a committed group of people dedicated to their community.”
Hope they tart off with the tens of thousands of dollars left from boomtown payback from thief. should be close to
