On 05/15/20, Officer Fort was dispatched to a careless and imprudent driver traveling south bound on Highway 43 toward Seneca.
Dispatch stated there had been several calls on the vehicle for swerving all over the roadway and almost colliding with oncoming traffic.
Officer Fort located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at Cherokee and Wyandotte St.
Upon an investigation it was discovered the driver was under the influence of narcotics and subsequently was arrested for DWI-Drugs.
A search of the vehicle revealed narcotics and narcotic equipment.
The driver was transported to the Newton County Jail and booked. The driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, DWI-Drugs, C&I driving, improper registration, and no insurance. It was later learned the driver had been arrested by another local Police Department just two weeks earlier on similar charges to include DWI.
We would like to thank the concerned citizens that took the time to make the call that led to an impaired driver being removed from the roadway.

On 5/14/20, Officer Fort made a traffic stop at Hwy U/Hwy 43 for an equipment violation. The driver was arrested and cited for DWR and No Insurance and was transported to Newton County Jail.

On 5/12/20, Officer Zimmerman made a traffic stop at Hwy U/Stateline for an equipment violation and improper registration.
The vehicle was pulling a trailer with a UTV on the trailer. Upon running VIN numbers, it was learned the UTV had been reported stolen out of McDonald County in 2018.
The driver was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Controlled Substance. The driver was transported to Newton County Jail.

On 5/5/20, Officer Zimmerman made a traffic stop at Cherokee/Grand for an equipment violation. The female driver was issued a citation for DWS and given a court date.

On 5/5/20, Officer Zimmerman made contact with a suspicious person on Cherokee Ave. The subject, Kenneth Luke Wilkins had a warrant out of Greene County for: FTA Non Support Felony No Bond. Mr. Wilkins was arrested on his warrant and transported to Newton County Jail.

On 4/29/20, Officer Fort observed a four-wheeler on the riding on the railroad tracks. When Officer Fort used the spotlight to see who it was, the driver took off and a pursuit began.
The driver was identified and cited for: Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, C&I Driving, Speeding, No Valid Driver’s License, Operating an ATV in City Limits, and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing.
That first one needs to be locked up and his/her license taken away plus the car should be impounded. If the family still needs the car, they can make arrangements to guarantee the impaired driver won't be using it again.
