After arrest, new Jasper resident, formerly from Lamar, tells officer he will try to quit using meth

Possession Of Controlled Substance Arrest

On Thursday, August 30th, 2018 at about 12:45 pm, a Jasper PD officer stopped a 1996 Buick passenger vehicle with Colorado license plates near the intersection of 5th and Morrison.

Contact was made with the driver, James Inman (formerly of Lamar, new to Jasper). Signs of possible drug use was observed by officer. After a search was conducted, a baggy with a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and a glass pipe was found in Inman’s book bag on the front seat of the vehicle.


The officer explained to Inman of the “no meth allowed in Jasper” rule that was put into place on January 1st, 2016... and that maybe Jasper is not the right fit for him to live. He stated he understood and would try and quit using meth. Inman was transported to the Jasper County jail.

Note: Inman is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Butterfield man injured in accident near Stark City

A Butterfield man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 12:20 p.m. today on MO 86, two miles east of Stark City.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1982 Honda Goldwing driven by Brandon Gaither, 31, Butterfield, ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Gaither was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Goodman woman injured in two-vehicle crash on 59

A Goodman woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision 1 p.m. today on MO 59 at Rotue AA in Neosho.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Noah T. Wallbrinck, 23, Anderson, failed to yield to a 2001 Lincoln Town Car driven by Phyllis A. Peery, 71, Goodman, made a left turn and hit the Peery vehicle.

Peery was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

JPD officer arrests armed suspect with outstanding warrants after recognizing him at Casey's

Incident Spotlight

On Thursday morning at 2:43 a.m. one of our officers stopped at Casey's at 403 North Main to get a snack. 

While in the store, the officer recognized another male in the store who had warrants. He confirmed the male had two Joplin warrants for his arrest and approached him. He identified himself and called the male by name and told him he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. The male refused to comply and pulled away, starting a physical struggle. 



During the struggle, the suspect pulled a handgun out of his waist band and threw it on the floor. The officer deployed his taser to take the male into custody as he attempted to escape the store out of the front door. The male was arrested for his warrants, resisting and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Joplin man, Webb City man injured in three-vehicle accident on Fountain Street

Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident 2:35 p.m. Friday on Fountain Street, east of MO 43 and one mile south of Airport Drive.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2002 Dodge 1500 driven by Michael E. Robinette, 56, Webb City, crossed the center line, overcorrected, crossed the center line again and struck a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Devin M. Degonia, 22, Joplin, and a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Kenneth D. Aton, 60, Webb City, that were stopped at a stop light.

Robinette was treated for serious injuries and Degonia for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.



12-year-old boy injured in hit-and-run accident in Liberal High School parking lot

A Liberal youth was injured in a hit-and-run accident 3:15 p.m. Friday in the Liberal High School parking lot.

According to the Highway Patrol report, William B. Shannon, 12, Liberal, crashed his bicycle in the parking lot and was then run over by the right rear tire of a small, red pickup, which left the scene.

Shannon was treated for minor injuries at Cox Barton County Hospital, Lamar.
