JPD officer arrests armed suspect with outstanding warrants after recognizing him at Casey's

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

On Thursday morning at 2:43 a.m. one of our officers stopped at Casey's at 403 North Main to get a snack.

While in the store, the officer recognized another male in the store who had warrants. He confirmed the male had two Joplin warrants for his arrest and approached him. He identified himself and called the male by name and told him he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. The male refused to comply and pulled away, starting a physical struggle.

During the struggle, the suspect pulled a handgun out of his waist band and threw it on the floor. The officer deployed his taser to take the male into custody as he attempted to escape the store out of the front door. The male was arrested for his warrants, resisting and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
