Committee seeking ideas for fifth anniversary of Joplin Tornado

(From the City of Joplin)

In consideration of reaching the five-year milestone following the tornado that struck Joplin and Duquesne on May 22, 2011, a committee of community representatives is interested in learning how citizens would recognize this anniversary. To help gauge the public’s preferences, the “5@16 Committee” has launched a short survey of just three questions.
These questions focus on the individual’s ideas in recognizing this milestone.
How would you want the Joplin area to observe the 5th Anniversary of 5/22/11?
How will you and your family observe the 5th Anniversary of 5/22/11?
What is your zip code?

Citizens can complete the survey online by going to the blog at www.wearejoplin.com and clicking on the button on this page that will link them to the brief questionnaire. There is also the opportunity to answer the questions at the Joplin Public Library and Joplin City Hall in the main lobby. The survey will be available through Wednesday, November 12.
To initiate this community survey, volunteers will be at Third Thursday asking people to submit their ideas on a large pad. Look for this station near the Joplin Schools booth along Main Street.
The 5@16 Committee is a group of citizens interested in providing the community an opportunity to reflect and recognize the significance of May 22, 2011. Chairpersons for the group are Terry Wachter, Logan Stanley and Emily Stanley. Committee members include Sam Anselm, Jane Cage, Darren Fullerton, Julie Heavrin, Lynn Onstot, Karen Plott, Gary Shaw, Tonya Sprenkle, Patrick Tuttle, and Kim Vann. The group will review the results and discuss feasible options for the anniversary in 2016. The committee will also be asking for participation from others to assist in planning and implementation of these activities.
Announcements and discussions will be featured on the “wearejoplin” blog, and the public is encouraged to watch for new postings on this site.
