(From the City of Joplin)The City of Joplin is making steady progress on the Baker’s Branch East Wastewater Extension Project.
This sanitary sewer improvement will extend service from Duquesne Road at Zora Avenue to the highway interchanges at Zora Street and Newman Road. The extension is part of a broader effort to provide reliable sewer service to the City of Duenweg, which holds a sewer agreement with Joplin for this service.
To avoid major disruptions to traffic along Highway 249, the City will install the sewer line using a trenchless boring method beneath the highway, rather than cutting through the pavement. To help evaluate the subsurface conditions and guide the boring operation, the City is working with Terracon Consultants to perform geophysical exploration. This specialized work will provide critical information about the rock layers in the area before boring begins.
Terracon is scheduled to perform this geophysical work during the nights of Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15, and will create a lane closure for both northbound and southbound traffic. Lane closure signage with flashing arrows will be set up to alert drivers to the upcoming closure. Lane closures will be from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Drivers should use extreme caution in this area during these nighttime operations.

The City is working with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to have these lane closures on MO 249 and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as the City works on this regional infrastructure improvement.
