A Jasper woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 1:15 p.m. today on I-44, four miles south of Carthage.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1997 Nissan truck driven by Michaela Schlichting, 20, Jasper, went off the roadway due to wet pavement and overturned.
Schlichting was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Joplin man arrested on felony drug charges, DWI in Bates County
The Highway Patrol arrested a Joplin man on a felony drug charge and for driving while intoxicated 9:50 p.m. Tuesday in Bates County.
According the Patrol report, Dale E. Shinn, 62, Joplin, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, driving while intoxicated, driving while revoked and speeding.

Missouri Southern jazz combos to present two concerts

Music lovers will have two opportunities to catch the MSSU Jazz Combos in concert on Nov. 9-10.
The first concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium.
The performance will feature three university jazz combos performing a variety of jazz standards. Special guests include the Southern Jazz Collective, whch will present the world premiere of “Hanaloseo’ (As One).” The work was commissioned by the MSSU Institute for International Studies as part of the Korean Semester. The composer, Bret Zvacek, who is director of jazz studies at the State University of New York in Potsdam, will be in attendance. Vocalist Bailey Park will sing several selections, including “Blue Skies” and “Where or When.”
The Jazz Studies Department has partnered with Crosslines Ministries for the concert. Those attending are invited to bring a donation of canned goods or a winter coat to assist those in need in our community.
Three student jazz combos will perform again at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Gusano’s Pizza, 3929 E. Seventh St.
The groups will perform a variety of jazz standards including “Blues in a Closet” and “Satin Doll.” Vocalist Bailey Park will also be featured.
“The MSSU Jazz Studies Program continues to grow and these concerts promise to be a wonderful opportunity for the community to enjoy the talents of our music students,” said Dr. Phillip Wise, director of music education and jazz studies at Missouri Southern.
Both performances are free and open to the public. Those attending the performance at Gusano’s are encouraged to make reservations by calling 417-623-9090.

Southern Theatre to present "Sleeping Beauty"

Southern Theatre will present “The Sleeping Beauty” at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 12, in Taylor Performing Arts Center at Missouri Southern State University.
Adapted from the classic Brothers Grimm tale, it’s the story of a princess who was cursed at her christening by a wicked fairy. The fairy prophesied that on her 16th birthday the princess would prick her finger on a spindle and fall into a deep sleep. She will only be awakened by a prince brave enough to fight his way through the wilderness that grows up around the castle.
The show is directed by Ann G. Lile. Admission is $3 for adults, and $1 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be available at the door. The box office will open at 1:30 p.m. for each performance.

Five hundred pounds of drugs collected in Cherokee County Drug Take Back
Nearly 500 pounds of unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs will be turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, following the Drug Take Back Event held in Cherokee County on Saturday, October 28th. The event is part of a national program, occurring each spring and fall.
“It’s great to see this program to continue being successful and supported by our residents in Cherokee County,” stated Sheriff David Groves.
“We will be turning in 494 pounds of drugs that now will not be accidently taken by children, intentionally abused, or unsafely disposed of in our waterways.”
“I appreciate the partnerships of the Galena Police Department, Monarch Pharmacy in Baxter Springs and Apple Market in Columbus, which allowed us to make it even more convenient for residents to take advantage of this program,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
