03/30/2023 Officers were dispatched to Walmart for a theft in progress. A vehicle that matched the description was stopped. One person was arrested for Stealing Under $750 (Shoplifting) and Drug Paraphernalia; she was booked and released with citations.
3/30/2023 Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West 5th Street regarding a past tense theft. Suspect was issued a citation for Stealing under $750.
04/02/2023 A bicycle was found in the area of 9th & Parry. Bicycle was taken to the Police Department.

Joplin Police Department promotes Brett Davis to sergeant
(From the Joplin Police Department)The Joplin Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Corporal Brett Davis to the rank of Sergeant. His promotion was effective Friday, March 31st.
Sergeant Davis graduated from the MSSU Law Enforcement Academy in 2009 and worked for the Jasper County Sheriff's Office from September 2008 to November 2011 as a Detention Officer and then a Patrol Deputy before being hired by the Joplin Police Department in November 2011.
During his career at JPD, Sergeant Davis has worked as a Patrol Officer, DWI Enforcement Officer, a K9 Officer, and as a patrol supervisor in the Uniform Operations Bureau.
Sergeant Davis has also served as a Field Training Officer, Range Officer, SFST Instructor, Type II Instrument Instructor, DWI Checkpoint Supervisor, Less Lethal Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert, Honor Guard member, and has held the following positions on the JPD SWAT Team: Operator, Sniper, Explosives Handler/Breacher, Assistant Team Leader, and is currently a Team Leader.
Sergeant Davis will continue to work as a patrol supervisor in the Uniform Operations Bureau.
We wish Sergeant Davis the very best as he starts this new chapter in his law enforcement career. Congratulations.

Three teens injured in collision at 43 and 126
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet Impala driven by Micheal S. Daniels, 19, Kansas City, Kansas, failed to yield, pulled out from the stop sign at 126 and was struck by a 2017 Ford Econoline van driven by Jeremy L. Bowles, 44, Galena, Kansas.
A passenger in the Daniels vehicle, Na'Kasia C. Hayes, 19, Greenwood, was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
Daniels and another passenger in his vehicle, Jelani X. Murray, 19, Kansas City, were treated for minor injuries at Freeman.
