Missouri Southern Wellness Incentive Program receives statewide recognition

(From Southern News Service)

The Wellness Incentive Program (WIP) at Missouri Southern State University has joined a growing number of Missouri businesses by becoming an awardee of the Missouri Workplace Wellness Award.

The program also earned the highest level of certification – appropriately, gold.

“We are extremely honored to receive such an important award,” said Evan Jewsbury, MSSU Chief Human Resources Officer. "Wellness has always been a cornerstone for our faculty, staff and students over the years, and we look forward to building on what we consider to be a solid program that continues to improve each employee’s personal wellness journey.”

“We incentivize our employees with a $25/month discount towards their health insurance,” he added. “It allows them to focus on what’s most important to them whether that be social, community, career, physical, emotional or financial well-being.”

Employers that provide wellness accommodations report higher employee retention, lower absenteeism and presenteeism, higher morale, greater productivity, a safer work environment and reduced health care costs. Many studies have also shown improved employee job satisfaction.

The Missouri Workplace Wellness Award is a collaboration between the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition (MOCAN) and the University of Missouri Extension.

The program aims to bring an increased awareness about the importance of worksite wellness for employees, and recognizes employers with policies supportive of employee health and wellness.
